Rings for oil rings???
This is my 2nd engine build on my own car. I've worked at a nissan dealer for 2 years and have rebuilt some engines there also. Any who...the first engine build was with low comp. CP pistons and eagle rods for my turbo set-up. I had just ordered PR3 pistons from Nippon pistons and they came with set of rings. I've recieved 1st comp rings, 2nd comp rings and oil rings but the oil rings came with enough rings to sandwich the oil rings. Is this what Im supposed to do? I have never seen or heard of sandwiching oil rings but that is how they packaged the oil rings, with extra rings.
The oil ring is made up of an expander (the wavy one) and two rails that go on each side (top and bottom) of the expander.I think this is what your asking.
Yes. I dont remember doing this with the CP pistons but it has been couple years since the last rebuild. Well anyway do I need to gap these too? if so how wide? Thanks.
No,the oil rails don't need to be gapped. They should have at least .015" but will typically have around .030" or so out of the box.The gap is not critical.
