Warping front brake rotors on 2000 EX
I can sense bull coming from dealers and I thought that they had become more sophisticated. I used to work for a dealer many years ago and heard all the tricks. But, this one takes the cake.
I have a 2000 EX Accord with 14,000 original miles. I only drive the car during summer months. I recently relocated to Nevada and took the car in for service. The service manager told me the front rotors were warped and that they needed to be resurfaced or replaced. Knowing that cutting them would only make heat dissipation worse, I asked him why such a problem would occur; especially since I don't drive the car hard. His answer...........because I use the brakes to stop the car instead of downshifting! Imagine that. Apparently, according to the ser. mngr., the temperature in Las Vegas is too hot and brake rotor warpage is common. So, what's the solution according to the service mngr? There is none; except to get into the habit of cutting and replacing rotors.
My solution..........swap the rotors for high performance cross drilled rotors that will dissippate heat faster and more efficiently. Anyone have an opinion on a good manufacturer/source for high performance rotors that I can put on this car to solve this problem?
Thanks in advance,
bo
