scheduled service required for warranty?
I was at my dealer today and they said that if i don't get the necessary scheduled serviced like at 7,500 15,000 and 30,000 etc. they could void my warranty. Is this true or are they just trying to hustle me? The service they do is pretty much b.s. anyways all they do is check things, rotate tires, all stuff i could do at my friends shop. They charge like $185 for the first service and over $330 for the 30,000. It should be a crime to charge that much for basically a checkup. Can they really void a warranty for not getting this service done at a dealership?

It would be a crime to void the warranty. They can only deny the warranty claim. You are free to take your car to anyone to have scheduled maintenance done. The trouble with that is you may or may not get Honda OEM parts, and the service technician servicing your vehicle may not have had training on your vehicle. Perhaps your purchasing dealer offers a discount program on service and parts should you choose to bring it to them to service. If not that's really too bad for them. Service after the sale is where dealerships can really earn their customers trust and repeat business. This also offers the opportunity for the dealer to earn more money. If the service adviser continues this tactic ask him to put it in writing or show you the policy in writing. Chances are he is full of bull.
On another note should you want to get great prices on parts ask the service adviser to provide the part numbers on the parts you need for the services that will be provided. Take these part numbers and look them up at http://www.majestichonda.com print out the prices and see if they will match them. I have done this several times to my advantage. Like buying the car you can often negotiate some type of discount on labor, and definitely the price of the parts. The dealer would rather sell you the part at the reduced cost and do the labor than lose the sale to a competitor. Any time I need parts at a great price and don't want to pay shipping I take printouts of majestichonda.com prices and shop around, 9 times out of 10 I win. If you can't get anyone to budge in your favor buy the parts online, and seek out and independent garage to do the work. Try to locate a place that specializes in Honda/Acura. Documentation is all you really need to shut these service departments up.
Good luck and please let us know how it turned out for you!

Yeah man, its called "Recommended Service" not required. Anywhos... why are you still dealing with Desert or Honda West??? You need to come see me so you can rest assured your gettin taken care of! They cannot void your warranty for not doing a 15k or 30k or whatever. Tell em your gonna call Honda and ask them and see what they have to say than.
Thanks for the input guys, I knew who told me that was full of b.s and was just trying to suck every last dollar out of me. Being a student and working I dont have hardly any extra cash to throw to some "recommended service". Too bad i dont remember who told me that bogus news, or i would report his/her *** to Corporate.
