Default Reliabilty of a H22 Hatch

I'm trying to get my friend to get rid of the troublesome DSM and the only way that he would do such a thing and do that is with a H22 Hatch.
I would love for him to do so. But since our limited knowlage of swaping engines, we are apprensive to say the least. I know that this is a advanced swap but it can be done. We would be doing the swap, we are very good with cars and we have done some advance car stuff. We have installed a Phantom grip in his DSM tranny, (to name something.) We did this for the first time and had absolutly no problem in doing so.
I would love to start with a easer sway like a B16 (straight bolt in) but that is not a option. He wants the bigger motor as well as the torque.
I can not blame him i love My 97 Lude!!
I guess what i'm looking for is some info on doing the swap, who has done it/doing it. There are NO shops arround here that would even know where to start and besides it would be too much fun to have someone doing it.
So if anybody has some info on it, that would be willing to relay it to me that would be great!! Any websites that have broked it down, or writeups on it would be appreacheted!!

Thanks again

Oh yea, how much work is expected to up keep the car after the intial install.
Would it be like a stock car?
More maintance but still not anything major.
Or lots of up keep.

A H22 hatch is totally daily drivable and streetable... I've been driving mine for the past 8 months on the street, and race it every weekend.... zero problems to date and it drives great (no need for PS... steers even better than before with my B20) and there's tons of torque on hand. I'm using the HCP mounts because they don't require any cutting, plus I've been using their mounts for over 5 years now on all of my car and also the fact that I work for them (and sell the mounts ), but I'm not going to tell you what mount kit to get... get whatever you want. I'll stand behind a product that I've used and have put through "my tests" and know that it's a quality product

I just did mine two weeks ago. The h22 is the real deal, simple as that. I used the Hasport kit. No problems. I do have to say you can definently feel the h series in the car.

Hey all, I am the friend with the troubesome DSM. I REALLY want to do this, but would like some more information on this. Does anyone have/know of a 'shopping list' of parts/wiring harnesses/vacuum information I will need for this? I'd also, if at ALL possible, like to salvage the AC and PS. Please let me know if you have any more info! I want reliable speed.
So far, it's mounts, teg axles, some sort of wiring, and VTEC vacuum setup? Any others?
Thanks!!

Yeah I did mine myself. A well equipped shop is really helpful. I work for a dealership so a lift and table lift really makes things nice. The mechanical side of the swap was a breeze. The wiring wasnt very fun. Definetly invest in Honda books. As far as suspension I am using a Spax 2" shortened strut & spring kit, compression adjustable only, it works pretty good. I did fab up 1/4" spacers that sit on top of the strut between the body. I needed some ride height increase. Kindof a ghetto fix for now, I really want to invest in full coil-overs. You guys know the deal, the swap kindof ate up the funds pretty quick.

Well, I bought a '96 Hatch. It had an H22 in it, so it's got all the linkage, mounts, etc. So, I'm on my way. I just need to buy a JDM H22 with LSD. The search is ON!

Actually, we're using a HCP prototype AC bracket right now on an EK hatch. The same bracket will work on the EG but you'll have to relocate the AC condensor fan to infront of the condensor. I'll be selling it very soon and will have picts of it up on my website, but it does work on a H22 Civic and you can have AC if you really want it.

As for PS, no luck there because the PS compressor would probably hit the hood.

ProSpeed from this forum also sells an a/c bracket that works with EG's and the HCP kit. it comes with a proper belt and everything it's $175. and as far as i know you don't have to relocate anything.

it's the same bracket!? i thought he was having this made on his own...oh well. so i have to relocate the a/c fan to in front of the condensor? ....won't that lose the effect brought on by the fan since it will restrict most airflow?

Not having power steering really isnt bad at all. I thought it would be hard to turn, but its really not bad. Alot of people say dumb things about the H series swap, handling, steering blah blah blah.......... Drive one (thats built properly) and youll see for yourself. Dont believe everything you read on the internet
Later dudes IZ

Oh yeah about the A/C use the Prelude comp./bracket fab lines to connect up to the Civics lines.
