Preludes have a shift block that prevents you from entering reverse while moving with any sort of relevant speed, but if you are parked and it doesn't work, give it the good old fashion wiggle then drop it into fourth then try reverse, works for me when reverse is acting up in my lude.

Sounds to me like you might have lost reverse, preludes are known for randomly losing reverse

For some it means that it will go in but never move, and others it just means you can't get in to go in at all, yours doesn't go in at all, right? If it doesn't go in at all it could be messed up synchros or shift fork

i had the same problem back in january.

diagnosis: bent shift fork.

ihad the honda care plan on my lude so when honda went to replace the shift for they threw in new gears bearings sleeve set synchros etc.

but it is a shift fork algnment problem. usually a bent shift fork.

when mine acted up i just sat in my car going from gear to gear like 4th to reverse etc. try going from 1st to reverse alot. you just might be able to re align the shift fork.

but honestly that is a big PITA. damn h series trannies are worthless. if you go to get it fixed i would just by an h to b kit and b series tranny. way better off.

hope this helps.
