I personally use regular non-syntetic 5w30 motor oil on Cylinder wall prep before piston installations, but have seen and herd of so many other things people use... Please help me find out the best solution there is.... btw if im missing anyother stuff that should of been on my poll list plz feel free to inform me......

What did you have problems with? Did this break-in faster or slower than other options? Did the ring life last longer?

 

I have been using WD40 for many years and never to this day never had a ring or piston failure from using it on first startup and find the rings seat very quickly.

In my vast experience of like, 10 motors lol, I have used WD 40 on all of them. Maybe not the best, but definitely not the worst since none of them died an untimely death.

 

My machinist uses wd40 on the walls before he installs the pistons, and after couple of turns rotating the crank, it makes little dark scratches up and down the walls... Now would that be because he was using wd40 or is it just normal like that???

 

I have been using WD40 for years too.

Its a mystery to me.

 

I use MMO!! Then the engine runs for about a half an hour before going onto the dyno. 24 inches of vacuum (small cams) and no smoke tells me its working well.

Last time I tried oil was when I put a snowblower engine together in high school. Since then has been wd-40 and mmo.

 

i use ATF.

Why not use the dry-lube from Total Seal. I would be willing to bet that every team in Pro-Stock uses it...

I vote for MMO or WD40 after cleaning with acetone.

 

At the machine shop i work at we use WD40.

 

i always use HondaLube. it's just like WD-40, but i get it free at work.

i love using it at work seems to work better then wd40 imo

 

Interesting. Ive never tried it. I have never found an anerobic sealant that works as well as Honda-Bond tho, so if the results are anything like that, it could be quite good.
