I need to find a new motor... where would be the cheapest place do you guys think? I have a 98 prelude with the h22a VTECH, is this the type r? i saw on a web site that 97+ is type R not sure if mine is or not.. please help me out guys...

Um... No.. There isn't a Prelude "Type R" first off..
Second, it's "VTEC", not "VTECH." Be careful, you'll get ripped a new one for that here..

Third, are you sure you have a H22A? Check again, you should have a H22A4, unless you've had an engine swap. There's a big difference between a H22A and a H22A4.

You can search in the for sale of the Prelude Forum and you can go to the Honda Market Place to look for one..
There's tons of websites that sell H22's and http://www.hmotorsonline.com is always a recommended source.

Yeah, no problem..

The H22A is a JDM Engine, and the H22A4 is a USDM OBD2 Engine from the 5thGen Prelude. There are many other differences, but that's the basics for the models at least.

so before he noticed this "epoxy like" stuff, your car was running okay though? (besides a failed water pump?/timing belt?)

Why don't you find an aluminum welder and have him weld up the hole? Seems easier and cheaper to me...

Call me a paranoid guy but it sounds like someone is being taken for a ride....
IMHO $2500 installed with new timing belt/water pump is THE number.
I pay about $1000 for JDM longblocks and get parts at cost though.....

Yeah, about $2500-3000 is the magic number for an H22A swap into a Prelude. Any quote more than $3000 and you're being ripped off. http://www.hmotorsonline.com sells the entire swap (engine, tranny, ECU) for about $2000, but since you just need a long block, you can probably get one for $1000-1500 retail price. Labor should cost you about $700-800.
