Default A tip on oil filters: I lost 8-10 lbs of pressure with.......

To preface this, I have a 94 GSR, but this info will be good for anybody.

I've been using HAMP oil filters that my best man in my wedding bought me. In preparation for a trip, I wanted to change my oil. I recently moved and my HAMP oil filters are boxed up somewhere, so I bought a Fram Sure Grip.

Cruising at 70 MPH, my oil presure with the HAMP filter was around 80 lbs (+/- 2 lbs).
Cruising at 70 MPH, my oil pressure with the FRAM filter is around 70 lbs (+/- 2 lbs).

Needless to say, I'm gonna be tearing through boxes to find my last couple of HAMP filters.

Every one I've bought recently (read within the past two months) says "Honeywell" on it .

Just because they are getting new filters doesn't mean they still aren't selling the hundreds they stock in every dealership.

I buy WIX Gold from Napa for $6. Great filters.

I don't have any problem with Honda filters either. Everyone I buy is still made by FRAM though. I just buy WIX Gold's for less money and I couldn't be happier.

erans right, they sell the fram till they're out. The wix gold is worth their weight. I used to be a mobil1 freak about the filters, but the wix are pretty much OEM, just like mobil 1

do you have to replace the hamp more often? arent they smaller than OEM? thats where the added oil pressure comes from

The good Honda filters are made by FILTECH (partnered/owned with Toyo Roki). This includes the A01, and PCX S2000 filter. The A01 filter is discontinued so don't bother with the A02 filter as that is made by fram/honeywell...

S2000 PCX is the way to go if you want OEM. Plus it's still the older style big can with lots of filter media...

good OE filters are nippon. and even if fram or honeywell make filters for Honda, they have to make them to hondas specs. fram doesn't make low quality becuase they can't make anything better, they do it cuz it's cheaper. honda pays them to do it better.

It doesn't matter what oil filter you use. This topic has been covered hundreds of times.

70 or 80 psi of cruising oil pressure, by the way, is way too high. You want about 40 - 50. As long as the pressure's above 10, it's fine and nothing is going to be damaged. How do I know? Because I have a mechanical oil pressure gauge on my 281,000+ mile D16Z6 and I watch it like a hawk. It's been running different Valvoline filters its entire life - except when I bought it and it had a Fram - and it's held up to drag, autocrossing and road racing.

People with enough time on their hands to concern themselves with the brand of their oil filters need to get a life. As long as the thing's not defective, it's fine. You're not trying to win the NEXTEL cup, you're getting ******* groceries

PS - worked for Ashland Chemical's Valvoline division for three years. If anyone really gave a **** about their oil, they would run toilet paper filters. If you don't know what that is, don't bother arguing with me.

I have read about this and heard some good things. Archidictus have you or do you know anyone that has used this type of system?

nippon makes those small filters too.

Oil pressure isn't as important as oil volume.

what about initial startup pressure, wouldnt you like to have a smaller oil filter for that? running pressure I dont care about, its oil flow.

i've always wanted to konw what would happen if I put an m1-105 instead of a 104-OEM
