H22 in a Type R

Default H22 in a Type R

Im having an arguement with my friends. there saying if you were to throw an H22 in an integra type r it would be faster than a type r. they also said that an integra with an h22 would run 14.00's. well i think h22 are gay *** motors and i need you guys to prove them wrong.

h22 has 5 more horses stock than the B18C5, and it's torquier....but it's also heavier. It would be a pain in the *** to put one in an integra, and in the end you'd have a car that was probably just as fast in a straight line, but with even worse weight distribution due to the heavier motor, so the handling would be messed up. You could make it run 14.00s, but you can do that with a B18C5 too.....

The ATR has the H22B (I think) with 215 hp. That's what you need.

i wouldn't think so just because of the weight issue (straight line) try taking some turns cause having that damn big block would fock the balance of the itr up!!!!!

More Torque - definately
Faster - Not noticeably
Plus like he said, you would mess up the weight distribution. FF cars already have poor weight distribution to begin with, and your gonna put a bigger heavier motor up front ?
Honda put the B18c5 in the ITR for a reason. Leave it there..

cause having that damn big block would fock the balance of the itr up!!!!!
I can't beleive someone just called a 2.2 litre motor a 'big block'... that's 134 cubic inches of recripricating fury... Sigh. I know in relative terms its big but still...

Stock for stock, I think that the H22A will edge out the B18C5 by a little down the 1/4 mile.

a 2.2 weighs 70 pounds more than C5, relocate the battery to the trunk and all your horrible weight distribution problems are solved!

It's only 70 pounds more. CF hood, no ps/ac and your back to original weight.
How much tq does it make?

Just for an extra 5hp and 20 lbs more torque. Both driven equally the best I can see is a tie otherwise a ITR w/b18c5 should be a ITR w/H22A

yea but if you have a b18c5 that is 70 lbs less, then you still relocate your 25lbs battery to the trunk and a carbon fiber hood (mine is 4 lbs) which is 34 lbs less than a stock one. right there that is less weight to have leave p/s and a/c (well at least if you live in florida)......... and whats the point of switching a perfectly good B18C5 for an h22a..... save the money you would spend on a H22A and throw it into your already good B18CR5............. save mad weight in the front make the car as light as possible and its all good..............leave the H22A for a single cam civic, that really doesnt matter to much about weight distribution......just my .02 cents

It's not a simple matter of weight. Leverage comes into play.

The extra weight is exaggerated by the fact that the engine sits in front of the the front axle line.

Yes an H22A in an ITR would be faster than a "regular" ITR. I'm dumbfounded that none of you can really see this.

ok so hypothetically speaking if the h22a is 5 more ponies and 20 more in torque.
if you have 2 stock ITR one with a h22a and one with b18c5.
the one with the b18c5 would still be 70lbs lighter than the one with the h22a.
so i dont see how the type r with a h22a would be a little if any faster than the b18c5 itr. weight does make a difference... example i had a stock civic si, and my friend had one also (stock)..... now the only difference was that i had 2 15' subs in my trunk which the speakers and the box alone wieghed 75 lbs. now we raced neck to neck the whole way until we got to 3 gear where my friend started to pull on me...
i know it wasnt the driving cause we were both on point and shifting at the same time..... now that was just my experience and example of the weight difference.
so i wouldnt see why it would be faster just cause it has a motor that has a little more power and weight......

now i am just speaking about what has been posted in this thread..(hypothetically)
i am not saying this is fact.........

I have actually seen hatch's with H22's lose to ITR's. As we all know, hb's are lighter than the ITR's. I guess it all depends on what condition the motor is in, and how skilled the driver is. My guess is that the ITR with the H22 will be slightly faster, but for all that time, and money invested, just to make it slightly faster is not really worth it. IMO instead of wasting all that money on the H22, I would invest it in a bunch of GO FAST parts.

But why would you lose the mechanics and the beauty of the hand-made B18C5? Come on now, you wouldn't want to throw a mass produced machined assembled motor into your special R

Throw it into a 94 RS...

this was brought up because i had an argument with my friends saying that the h22 is the god of honda motors, not counting s2000 or nsx. i just would like to bring this to the track but it would waste their money and time for an h22... not me

dude...anyone here think that prelude is faster than a type R ?!?!?...then why the hell would you want to put h22 in type R!?!?!?

I have a friend with H22 in HB Civc, and he ran 14.7... I SAW IT!

i'd much much sooner sleeve and bore out the C5 than put in a h22....in reality though, i'd never do that. the 1.8 is more than enough, bumpsticks and a little compression, who cares about h22....
