1.when i start the car it idles at 2000 but, when i take it around the block and park it, it idles fine./ 2.check engine light is on is it because my speedometer cable isn't in, i lost the clip

1.) 2000 RPMs when cold isn't that far off. I wouldn't worry about it unless your idle is erratic after warmup.

2.) Um, fix the speedo cable?
