Default My DD finaly died. I wonder why?

Before I bought this eg. An old woman drove this to and from work for 14 years and maintained it thru the same dealership she purchased it from in Bellevue, WA. I bought it from her for $1800 dollars since it was as she said "starting to run funny". But the rest of the car was pretty mint and a swap was going to take place anyways since it was a D15b7 automatic. A co-worker and I drove this a total of 75 miles a day for 4 months on 3 cylinders until it finally died. After pulling the motor I took it apart to find out why. Now do relize this car was maintained by Honda as scheduled and only had 132,000 miles on it.

And for the motor

So it was running on 3cly and you kept on driving it then when it blew all the way you wonder why? Timing belt could have skipped a tooth, could have been short tripped, headgasket could have blown, tond of things. It's gone now, not much use to worry about it now.

I was j/k about wondering why. I have all the documents and reciepts in a folder she gave me it's about 2" thick. As I was collecting parts for my next build I figured I would drive it until it blew up. I was originaly planning on doing a type-r ls/vtec but sold the type r head for almost 3 times what I paid for it. So my next project is building a turbo D16Z6 and shooting for the 275whp mark.

But why is there SOO much buildup? a properly maintained car especialy a honda with 132k shouldnt have that much should it?

That's a load and a half. I hate when people try to throw that line.

I don't keep half of my receipts and I still maintain my car, change the oil every 3k or less.

So your flooding a cylinder with fuel because the cylinder is dead, and you come on here and make it seem like your complaining about Honda reliability ? I'm sure you were dumping a lot of fuel in your oil pan since it was not burning off.

I would think that the cylinder that was dead, has the burnt valves, causing no compression in that cylinder, so fuel was probably just pilling up in that cylinder and not burning off or anything.

Correct me if I am wrong, but with the condition of that valve there would be no fuel burning in that cylinder. Looks to me like she did no drive it enough, and thats what caused all of that carbon buildup, and sludge. Not a lack of preventive maintenance, but a lack of driving.

You would have no compression, which would cause the cylinder to be dead. Driving like that would make the car run rich, dumping more fuel into the oil pan and washing down the cylinder walls with fuel.

We have had an issue like that, but the car still drove, and two cylinders were dead, car just would not pass emissions

I agree with you on that, but all that buildup would have happened long before the valve broke?

Carbon build up just happens over time on any engine

Top engine cleaners work wonders on all that gunk.

Where do you think all the gunk breaks down into ? The oil pan, the oil passages, and they also will break the sludge around gaskets and possible can cause leaks.

It's too late for him now, but at my old job we used to add a qt of trans fluid to the engine, do a top engine cleaning, and change the oil. That helps get rid of all that build up.

Yeah, but sometimes it can cause more damage then what its worth.
