CMI Summer Nationals July 22
Sun. July 22 Calif. Mod. Imports is asking for feedback structuring this event, we are looking for something new for our West Coast Racers.
Ideas that I have are:
1. combining the bracket payouts having 1 class paying back $1500 winner, $750 runner-up, and $300 semis.
2. new classes, same payouts
1. street tire class, manual only
2. import front wheel drive, slicks ok
3. automatic import or domestic slicks ok
4. NHRA drivers any vehicle
3. Index racing As close to Index without going under $400 to win. $250 runner-up $50 semis
1. 12.00 .4 pro tree
2. 13.00 .4 pro tree
3. 14.00 .5 pro tree
4. 15.00 .5 pro tree
Please post any suggestions or ideas.
Thanks Tony

wow some thing new now. not the old ordinary races? the one class bracket is a great idea for the faster people. the ones running street tires have no chance. i give a
to the index classes.
to the index classes.
index racing is dumb.. but if you insist on having it i'll be sandbagging it.... how about just copying a race structure from like lets say idrc or boti to make everything competitive for those that build cars to race everywhere...
Trending Topics
In for Pro Classes. If pro classes aren't going to be run, maybe open an exhibition class for us to test or even a grudge class for some friendly competition amongst us Pro Cars.
In all I think the events are getting better. Focus on track prep and clearing out the pro pit area. Some of us with spools have a hard time getting in and out with all the street cars up in there. Just my 2 cents. See you guys up there regardless. Going to be doing some testing this time around.
Any chance for NHRA cage certification? I know Ken has come out in the past.

I second the thought about following events like BOTI and IDRC just to make everything competitive. Why would you want a heads up race with a bunch of 15 and 14 second cars? As far as pro cars what’s going to happen with them? If you try to mix all the pro categories together a lot of cars won’t show. The N/A guys won’t have a chance against any of the turbo guys so it would be no point in showing up. Track prep sounds more important to me.
This is how I think it should look:
(IDRC Classes)
IDRC Heads-UP Classes
Run head to head with the fastest racecars on the West coast.
-Quick – FWD/RWD/AWD, 4/6 cylinder or 2-rotor Pro cars with 2 power adders
-All Motor – FWD/RWD/AWD, 4/6 cylinder or 2-rotor Pro cars, no power adders
IDRC PRO-AM Classes
Compete with the fastest street trim cars on the West coast.
-Pro-Am FWD – FWD, 4/6 cylinder cars, with 2 power adders
-Pro-Am All Motor – FWD/RWD, 4/6 cylinder or 2-rotor cars, no power adders
IDRC True Street Classes
True Street Class is designed towards real street cars on DOT radial tires.
-True Street Turbo RWD/AWD – RWD/AWD, 4/6 cylinder or 2-rotor cars, with 2 power adders
IDRC Bracket Racing (87 & newer EFI Domestics welcome)
-Super Comp - 7.50 - 14.99et
-Super Mod - 15.00 and Slower

the Imports need an Index class like the sportsman NHRA! I would love to see classes w/ an index. It would make it more fun and more competive. maybe 12.90, 11.90, 10.90, and heads up!

C'mon guys... that would be great but CMI hasn't been filling complete Pro classes for the past year... half this season, half last.
In the last event, a few street class cars (Chad being one) moved up to the All Motor class to fill the field. Were are gonna need everyone to start showing up, finishing cars (us included) to have dedicated Pro classes. As you can see it wasn't even a canadate in Tony's OP.
I do think a NHRA Q16 class ran as NHRA does for the "Pro" class would work, until the turns outs are greater. Have like an 11.49 qaulifying requirement.
My 2 cents.

I wouldn't mind having tony cutting the payouts to keep all the classes he had before. I think that is one of the big issues, how much people are showing up versue how many classes there is to pay out too..
i would do
All motor $600 winner $300 second $75 Semi
Pro Turbo $600 Winner $300 Second $75 Semi
Turbo street $400 winner $200 $50 semi
All Motor street$400 Winner $200 $ 50 semi
I think most people can agree that the money isn't really the big issue but just having a event to race at is the important part..

i agree! those classes are great.
but with the all motor street and turbo street being able to run slicks.. because why would anyone want to use street tires.... street tires suck!!

Here it is - my thinking
Mentioned already is to try and help out the racers by keeping as many of the rules and class's the same as other events. IDRC seems to have the most forward thinking structure with the teams and racer's in mind.
Set up a few
Pro Front
Pro Rear
True Street Front
True Street Rear
and then a few brackets with the cut off just shy off the street #'s - slicks or not is on the team/racer.
To save the track make sure there is a min entry # and the pay out needs to be based off of that amount. For those who really like the "heat of battle" allow some cool stuff like -
*side bet races during the "lunch .. break time" to hype up the crowd !!
*allow the teams to "sweetin the deal" and put up more money into the winning's !!
Of course all this needs to be done at the beginning of the event - as well as the teams needing to help the track run smooth. Getting to the right lanes and having the car ready for tech etc.
If you guys want some help to get the track prep 110% what about having the teams that really need the track at its best point helping on the cost or even getting there to heplp set up ?
I will PAY and PAY to have a great track ! Even help to keep it up during the day of the event - it really makes for a GOOD or BAD taste in your mouth when you leave a track.
AND A DRIVERS MEETING WOULD HELP !!!!!!!
just my .o7

we have a base set of rules and we follow them the are set up around the abiliy to have the best turnout and every competitor compeate without having to make major changes to thier cars to play! i agree a drivers meeting is good and any team who wants to sponser track prep and help to actually prep the track it would be appriciated! last but not least we need full classes to have the pro classes this time around so a roll call is going out to see who will attend!

....ill be out to play with yah guys
