Transmission go bye bye... Gurus, I need you on this one.
Some of you might remember this thread. If not, look at it before you read any further.
Well that happened 20,000 miles ago, during that time, I've driven the car the same (i.e Driving it hard almost every day), and it hasn't gotten louder, and I haven't encountered any further problems.
Last night a bunch of us left the movies (If you haven't seen Live FREE Or DIE Hard, GO SEE IT!), and I went to drive two of my buddies home. After dropping off the first one, I went tearing down the road leaving (Middle of the country, wide open straight, no chances for incident... Except for deer), going into third I turned over the tires, and it felt strange for some reason.
Well coming to a stop in fifth gear (Braking while engaged), I heard a ticking/rattling noise... Oh ****... I dropped my friend off, and by 10 minutes later, it was loud enough to the point where I couldn't hear my music.
The best way I can describe the noise, is a constant ticking/rattling/whimpering/whining noise, sounds like EXTREMELY loud valve tick, that decreases as speed decreases, and increases as speed increases. I thought MAYBE it was an axle, so I pressed the clutch in while cruising at 45MPH... Noise goes away, and when the clutch engages, it comes back. Not an axle.
So what the hell's going on here? The bearings are all relatively new (Had them replaced when the original incident happened), nothing seemed pysically out of wack when they had the transmission apart (Two Honda/Acura technitians, that know their ****). The best I can guess, is it's the differential.
I do have a rather stiff/notchy clutch... ACT HD pressure plate/ACT unsprung 6-puck, I think that might have just eaten up my already damaged differential.
So guys, any idea what's going on here?
It's either try and fix this one (I'd rather not), buy a used one that could have problems, or buy a brand new one, and know it's right, and know it has a warranty... For a price, of course.
Any input is appreciated.

You'll get mixed answers, it could be a handful of different things, my two educated guess would be what you think it is, your diff... or your throwout bearing.
Start tearing it down.

can you still engage all gears and drive in all gears?
I dont think its the diff. Try jacking the car up while in gear, and spin the tires. See if the noise is there. For the record Ive got 70K miles on my diff, and the last 2K have been severely beaten turbo miles and the diff is still ok. Anything can happen though I suppose.
you should hear my 4th gear, sounds like I have rocks in the trans lol
to me it sounds like something is bent and possibly rubbing a gear when that gear is engaged. tear that **** down. when you drain the fluid, watch for any metal chunks.

Throwout bearing is brand new. And the noise is constant, as speed increases, while the throwout bearing is just chilling.

The car drives smooth as can be, shifts great, no grinds, no hang ups during shifting, the car still handles great through turns, still grabs and takes off great, both wheels still spin. However, there is one thing that's weird other than the noises, when in 1st/3rd/5th, the gear is fully engaged, and you still have some "Play" in it, you can move it forward another inch or so, and it returns back to an inch back... I can't think of how to describe it, but that didn't happen until after the initial incident.
Shift fork perhaps? That just doesn't make sense though...

Im thinking either shift fork or something in the change holder assembly is either bent or partially came apart. Id still check under the can and make sure nothing looks out of place or bent especially near the shifter.
My gears shift fine as well but when I put it in 4th it sounds like the trans is going to fall off. I think I just bent something or broke a tooth or two on the gear itself. Ill know in a few days when I feel like caring enough to take it apart.

i have the same problem with act clutch. i guess act are becoming known on destroying tranny. the problem your having is inner shaft bearing. on idle its sounds like metal popping/ticking. when clutch pedal is engage is goes away due to shaft bearing have play/no pressure hold from your clutch. when your accelerating its sounds like a whine/blower and increases as you go faster. i thought about the throw out bearing going bad. had it replace twice in a month and i finally got feed up and had it taken apart to find out the bearing was the cause of it.
still not sure why act clutch is causing all this. im having this same problem again 2nd time with less than 4000 after having it taken apart. im riding this one and see what happens and i will no longer be purchasing act clutch.

Hmmm... I don't recall the input shaft bearing being replaced when I had the others replaced.
That sound you're describing sounds exactly what I'm experiencing. I'm so "torn" about what to do, new transmission, or take a chance at repairing this one, yet again.
This sucks.
I think I'm parking the R for a while anyway... I'm fed up.

Well, I decided to take it for one more drive to see if I could trace the symptoms a bit better... Bad idea. It completely let go, I can't even drive it anymore. I've never heard a noise like this, sounds like ****'s banging around inside the casing, I'm sure something's missing teeth, because you can't keep the car at a steady speed.

take it to the shop. if your lucky it will cost you no more than 500 most bearings replace. i had mine taken apart and thats the only things were replace. never ask how many of them or which one was replace. with 150 bucks for labor taken it off the car and taken the tranny apart. i couldn't resist to have it done. be aware oem bearings are costly.

Already had them replaced duder. The bearings aren't the problem, I'm pretty sure the pieces of metal from the final drive are, hahaha.

Haha, I still have all my old school metal shirts too, had all of the CC ones at one time, The Bleeding, Tomb of the Mutilated, Butchered at Birth, and a bunch of other ones. I should go look...
