do bra's scratch the paint more than protect??
i was thinking about getting me a bra for my civic since im about to get it repainted soon...and i commute across the bay area daily...then someone told me that a bra will scratch up the paint more than protect it...is this true?? how does it scratch up the paint anyways??
I helped my friend replace on on his old 5.0. Their were a ton of very fine scratches, something that could eaily be buffed out. But he really can't not run one now. That's because the paint has faded so differently over the years. This had been on probably 10 years or so, i would guess, so you may not have that problem.
Why it scratches is because it moves around slightly. Dirt, etc, gets under it and moves around as well. I'd only buy one if you like that look, not for protection. Try the clear 3m stuff instead.

My experience with bra's was never good. When I worked at Honda doing auto detailing we always suggested to customers to take them off, just because they hold moisture in and over time does more harm then good to your paint
Your supposed to clean them quite often, and clean under them often. In my opinion they are almost more of a hassle then the benefit they provide

what would be a good way to protect your paint other than the leather bras?? i heard about those clear bras which were good...any others??
A lot of people use the Honda OEM bras for long road trips, and then take them off once they arrive. This easily protects your front end from rock chips and bugs on the highway. It's certainly smarter (and better looking) than wasting a couple rolls of painter's tape every time.
IMO, I would put a really nice coat of wax on the front end before I ever put the bra on. And I wouldn't bother with them if you're looking for a permanent protector. Clear bra would probably be the way to go.

is putting/and taking off the leather bra a hassle??...i heard that its sometimes difficult...cause if not then im thinking i could live with taking it off and putting it back on after every trip
My sol had a bra on for around 10 years I guess.
The paint on the hood and fenders is still bright milano red.
The rest is pink.
I just use the hood part for long trips snowboarding and put on a spare bumper.
The bra isn't hard to take on/off either
