Default Trying to Figure out tire sizing, need help.

I've got a 1994 Accord Coupe LX, and i'm trying to figure what my tire limits are. I'm planning on purchasing a 16" rim. (It has an H22 W/LSD)

I'm wondering what are the max/min numbers i can work with.
215/45/R16?? I don't understand the effects of of width on the car/fender etc... need some help.

I'm wondering what are the max/min numbers i can work with.

Pretty sure he just looked at Tire Rack or something similiar, although i've always had the EX rims on my car. 195-60-15

Just figuring what numbers i can work with for a 16" rim

how wide is the 16 inch rim? if it's 16X7, then im sure the most you can put on is 225/45/16

tire size calculator.. those sizes are the best match if you do not want to recalibrate your speedo. Also you do not want to go too much wider than that becuase it will cause rubbing. Wider tires also affect your car's turn in rate

If i widen the tire, what will that do to the vehicle apart from rubbing, will it affect grip? fuel economy? traction? tire wear?

what are the pros & cons to changing aspect ratios?

I have a DX with stock 185/70/14 I need a 15 inch rim. The stock EX is 195/60/15 If I use that my speedo will be off. however, if I use 195/55/15 my speedo will only be off by 3/10ths of a mile.

ie: 10 MPH = 10.3 MPH the closest I could get.

yes. That would be the highly recommended tire size for a 16" rim. 225 would be overkill on a 7" wide rim and 215, might be just a hair too big.

Whats the offset on the rims you have? You wont run into a rubbing issue with the fenders or the knuckles it the 7" wide rims have any higher offset than a 27mm.

The best tire size calculator site around, it will let you comparer your stock tires/wheel to what your wanting and tell you how much you rspeedo will be off.

http://pw1.netcom.com/~sgalaba/tiresize.htm

With your current stock size of 185/70/14 and your original question of 215/45/R16 your speedo will be off by .25mph ie: 10mph reading = 10.25mph

If you use 205/55/16 your speedo will read like this 10mph reading = 9.73 actual mph

Use the above program (I use 10 mph as a good base)

Tire Width in (mm):185
Aspect Ratio:70
Rim Diameter in (inch):14
Speedometer Reading:10

I don't care about the speedometer being off, i care about if it's going to cause issues with the car.

i.e. Too wide means rubbing issues etc...

Sure, lets not worry that we are doing 10 over the speed limit. Don't mater that you will still get a ticket and the judge will just laugh and make you pay it anyways.

If you read above i'm going to get the speedometer re-calibrated eitherway, the difference in engine has altered the speedo for whatever reason, so why not calibrate after i get tires??

And last time i did that, the judge threw out my ticket. so what the hell are you talking about? i.e. make sure you have paperwork from a shop saying your speedo is off, and have a solid story. Case Closed.

most judges will tell you it's your responsibility to have the speedo fixed. and if you have papers saying its off, then even more proof for the ticket to stand.

So if u got off, then ur lucky. but whatever put whatever wheels and tires you want on it. it's ur ride man.

haha, i had the papers completed after i had the ticket, that way i could say i thought i was going this fast, i didn't realize....etc..

So what's the width that will start rubbing on the wheel wells. 215? 225?
