Default Yet another sputtering problem...Bad ECU or TPS?

Alright... well my JDM H22 swap is complete and all, and we got the clutch bled finally so its running.... but now I've got yet ANOTHER ******* sputtering issue...

1) The car has a chipped P13 ECU that I bought off ebay..... I took the car to a shop to get a diagnosis and wala... Dude sent me the AUTOMATIC computer instead of the manual like the description said...

2) I can't pull the code... The CEL is always lit when the car is RUNNING... but as soon as you turn it off, and try to turn it back on to pull the code with the jumper, the light goes off!! And when the car is on with the CEL lit, apparently it won't pull the code at all... The guys at TPR in Fairfield said they pulled the code (I have no clue how they did it) and got two codes: 7 and 36.

7 is the Trottle Position Sensor
36 is apparently some kind of traction control in the JDM ecu

3) He said that perhaps one of the pins in the TPS was bad and the car was getting a bad signal from the sensor and advised me to pull it off and just check... I was going to, but I instead used the new TPS I ordered for my old H23A1 and stuck it on there.... I figured it shouldn't get a bad signal from that one, but I was wrong... The car still sputters at certain times and I have no clue why.

I plan on either getting a 5 speed P13 or a P72 ECU (but I can never find one around here), so maybe that will help. I haven't tried plugging up the old P14 and seeing if that solves the sputter (perhaps its a problem with the ECU fuel mapping?).... but this is the last step to get a fully functional swap!... Like it'll cruise fine or what not, but when I go to dip into the trottle, its like it runs into a rev limiter and gets stuck at that certain RPM.... Flooring the gas pedal produces the same thing from 4000-6000rpm, but after 6000rpm it suddenly hops up and pulls hard like it normally should... Its not in limp mode, because it clearly still has VTEC.. but if it had a misfire, wouldn't limp mode engage and it would have no power.... I'm pissed off cause I can't figure this **** out... Sorry this is so long, but I tried to describe it in as most detail as possible so you guys could get a good idea as to what is happening...

Let me know what you think and thanks,
Bryan

couple possibilities:

1) bad tune on the chip, so yes try to get a stock ECU

2) check the TPS voltage when it's closed (.5 volts) vs. wide open (5 volts, if I remember right)

3) How's your timing?

1) I'm thinking about popping in the H23 P14 ECU and seeing if it runs any better... I know it won't have VTEC ( ) but oh well...

2) I have a voltometer (however you spell it), but there are three pins in sensor where it plugs in and unless i touch the same pin, I can't get a reading at all from it.... Would you care to explain how to check this? I put in a brand new TPS too and its still does it!

3) Well TRR had a timing light on it and when we got the car back he didn't mention a thing about the timing being off.... So I'm assuming that its on point.

Thanks for reply BTW

1) an H23 ecu isn't going to run well different injectors = different tune on the ECU, so it's not really going to tell you much.

2) I can't remember which wire to test & don't have a manual anymore so hopefully someone else will chime in. You need to ground the voltmeter to the chassis & test the correct wire while your electrical is on. If you've tested all three wires in this manner & did not get a reading from any of them, then you have a sensor or wiring issue.

3) Your timing is probably good then

Looking back on this issue.... like I said, it still seems like its a fuel problem to me... Its like it runs into a fuel cut in the middle of nowhere....

I was reading some forums on the internet and some guy that had a mechanic mount his motor (like I did) discovered that he was using the old H23A1 injectors! How do I tell if my car has the proper injectors on them or not?? Is there some kind of code that I can read to tell....

Alright well apparently I just found another thread about two guys having the same exact problem with their JDM H22A swaps!!

Someone's gotta know what's going on! Help please!

Its seems to be a fuel starvation/fuel cut issue and NOT a spark problem..... All vehicles seem to be tempermental, working well sometimes and pulling hard, and at other times it will just bog and cut out.
