I was just wondering if it would hurt anything if I painted my intercooler a flat black. I would tape off the fins and paint the endtanks and tops a few coats first, then just lightly spray the fins. I want to have a sleeper kind of look/feel about it, and its my first turbo project.

 

Thin radiator paint. Nothing thick, you could easily block all the airflow.

 

I've painted two with spray paint, no problems

 

I never had a problem using spray paint in a nice thin coat.

 

i used vinyl spray dye.. took a lot of coats but the **** is extremely thin

you can paint Intercoolers. Just make sure what ever you use is thin.

That isnt needed. This site is helpful as long as you can get DECENT people to post for you. A simple search is fine. When you get flamed for something that may get asked every now and then, its pitiful. I try to help people as much as I can on this site, regardless of how many times a question is asked. Even if its just a simple "search". Flaming isnt necessary, especially to the point that some have taken it. I have posted once, thats it, and I got a couple responses about search, flame... flame, search... Regardless, if you want to flame me, go for it, but atleast be helpful and not just flame without SOME helpful info.

Anyways, I just took flat black engine spray paint, and misted the front of my intercooler lightly and I never had any issues.

Yeah its possible to paint the intercooler. Just make sure you use light coats. Huge layers will decrease the efficency of the intercooler.

Your best bet is to get it anozied. Plus it looks so much cooler.

 

i wont bother with the painting intercooler issue.

but on the search issue, you guys realize that this site, in comparison to other car forums has about the WORST search engine for one simple reason. stupid thread titles.

look it up. its made for intercoolers and piping.

 

u should have a prob jus tmake sure u dont get any runs

 

also be advised that living in VA will probably require you to have to repaint the intercooler at least once a year. it only took one winter of salty road to pretty much ruin my black intercooler and charge pipes. it does look pretty sweet with a fresh coat on it though.

Um, you sort of understand the physics - flat black both absorbs and radiates heat efficiently. You can get a spray can of radiator paint from sources like Eastwood. I always paint FMICs to cut down on the 'steal me' look you get with a big shiny one.

i did my old one with flat black heat disapating radiator paint, i think it was like 10 bucks a can but it did seem to actually keep it a little bit cooler
