engine swap
Would it work to take a motor out of a 1987 civic SI and put it in a 1990 CRX? i know I would have to have someone weld up some new mounts and all but will the ECU work on the the engine and everything?
If your wondering why in the world I would want to do this its because I just wrecked my car today and I want to pull the motor out of it (it still runs good) and I want to put it in the CRX wich is sitting in my grerage with out a running motor. thanks.

motor mounts are the same I beileve and yes the ecu should just plug in. everything should be able to be taken out of the wrecked car and into the new shell.
wait a minute guys... we are talking about an 84-87 civic engine going into a 88-91 civic? mounts aren't the same, and I don't believe that the engine is that similar either.. it only makes 91hp vs. the 108hp of a 1989+ SI
I don't know though..
someone that knows more should be able to correct me... lol

"There are not a lot of interchangeable parts between the 1st Generation CRX (1984-1987) and the Second Generation CRX (1988 and later); the engine, transmission, suspension and body are different. Some brake parts and most fasteners are interchangeable."
I think that chunk of the thread you posted should answer the OP's questions

I know you can't use the ZC from the 86-87 integras to swap into an 88-91 civic
but that same ZC will drop in an 84-87 civic with stock mounts and everything..
I don't think it will work, sorry. Even if it does, you're still ending up with a 1.5l that makes less power than the original motor in the CRX si. not to mention if you hack up the CRX to make mounts work you'll only ever be able to put another old motor in it

well see its not means of power right now, its in means of transportation. cuz see I was in a wreck and I need a car to drive. Would I be able to weld up new mounts while leaving the old ones there?
But yea I get what your saying.

So today my dad gave me the briliant idea of switching over the fuel injectors from the CRX motor onto the Civic, then I wont have to worry about the ECU and crap. Just one question, Will it work to switch over the fuel injectors from my CRX to my Civic? I know they are both the D15 motor but Im not sure if it would work.
Sorry to tell you but it would be a hugh waste of time to make that motor work in your chassis. you could just convert a 88-91 DX to MPFI and drop it in SOOOO much easier and it would probaly be cheaper (at least if you include all the labor time to make the 87 Si motor work) than doing what you talking about.
I know it's frustrating to have a good working motor in a junked car and another good car w/ no motor but you are just wasting time w/ this one not too mention the headache you would have actually trying to follow through with this. Wiring? shift linkage? axles? mounts? these are all the basics and beleive me, you would encounter more problems than you think once you actually followed through.
Just get a swap from another 88-91 Civic or CRX and drop it in............done. I have seen countless DX swaps for $200.00 give or take and I would take that road way before you proposal, not too mention the DX comes w/ the same freaking power the 87 Si does...........crazy.

ok thanks. Yea I can see your point now. I just thought since they were baiscly the same motor it might work. So the fuel injectors/throtle body from the 90 CRX wont fit on the 87 civic motor?
Are you alright?! why in the hell are u using and old *** motor for? just buy a sohc zc for $350 bucks!! and u get power and save a lot of gas just don't drive fast!
WHATS NEXT A D16 ON A CRV?!?!?
WHATS NEXT A D16 ON A CRV?!?!?
stop askin question still lmao. its not gonna work.. dont even try it. no more question nothin.. i mean it is gonna work.. but u gonna have to take so much time an headache. at the end , u gonna b like i shoulda listen to the HT guyz.
maybe its because I only have 600$ to spend, Im only 16, its the only car I have right now, my job doesnt pay me that much, theres no freakin junkyards around here that have a better motor in, and my parents will never buy any car or engine for me because theyre poor. So tell me, what other choice do I have?

Check here on HT for people selling there full D-series swaps pretty cheap. $200-$400 on average depending on mileage and trim line (Si or DX). I would stay away from any HF motors though due to absolute lack of power. $600.00 is enough to get your '90 REX going, I promise.

where do you live anyways?
ok, so the plug-ins for the D16 will work for a D15? Im interested if they work. What state do you live in? Im in Lancaster PA.
PS. I called all around to all the junk yards today and no one has a motor.
