Default ***AWESOME! New exhaust SCRAPES driving on FLAT NEWLY PAVED ROADS. I'm effed. A little help here?

[sigh]

Ok here's the deal...

I just got my new catback in today (Apexi N1) and after a very stressful and head-ache inducing 2 hours of working under my 99 ej8 coupe on 2 tiny jackstands I got the damn thing on. Alright, I'm not a total idiot... and I am very aware that a little more scrapeage would occur, but damn son if I didn't pull out of my driveway onto my completely flat street they just paved 2 months ago and hear the resonator scraping the ground! I'm pretty darn low, not probably not meeting the strict requirements of the "slammed" thread (lol. i kid, i kid), but all 4 tires do tuck in the wheel wells, and I really don't think it's low enough to scrape just casually driving straight down the street. Anyway, I jacked it back up and saw that the section where the resonator is (the part that scrapes) has enough room to probably go up another 2-3 inches. Would shorter rubber hangers raise it enough to drive without worry? Or should I raise my coilovers high enough to make the drive to a muffler shop and let them maybe modify the hangers or something? I will shell out the necessary greenery to modify the exhaust so that I may continue my daily driven slammage, but damn... This just sucks. What are my options 'cause as of right now, it's almost totally undriveable... and I don't want to have to jack my sh*t up back to the stock doo-doo ride height just to accomodate for my exhaust. And yes, I know, "slammed cars aren't practical" and "Function>Form", but she's my baby... and I like her slammed. [insert sexual joke here]

Anyway, any suggestions would be GREATLY appreciated.

Thanks!

How low is your car? My cars so low i can't fit any jack under it but a scizor jack under it barely lol..

My friend took my exhaust off the other day and he ripped the hangars when he did. Now my exhaust is held up by zip ties haha.

I'd say try zip ties to see if they could tuck it up there a little more than it is for a temporary fix, till you can take it to the exhaust shop if the zip ties would work.

not from experience but try flipping it over i have heard if the happening in the past. i just (yesterday) got a 2.5" mandrel bent exhaust installed without problem(all tho that was custom made)... are you 100% sure that you received the right N-1 kit? the sip tie thing would work but i would use like 10 per hanger just in case one started to melt and check it like every 3 months (every day/week at first).

i say you have your pipes upside down? i had an apex n1 on my si and was slammed and didnt scrape hardly at all. flip it and see what happens. i believe the welded side of the hangers should be facing up and the hooks toward the ground. its been a while so if im wrong sorry.

Zip ties? Hmmm... that actually sounds ghetto enough to work. I'll snag some from work tomorrow and try that, though it would be very temporary cause the radiant heat might make eventually 'em disappear.
As far as lowness, here's a pic:

It's not THAT low.
And my stock exhaust only scraped on speedbumps, not driving down the f'n road.

You're not that low. I say you have piping/hanger issues.

mine was the same height as yours. either you got the wrong one or you put it on wrong. zip ties wont fix an error.

Raise the car up like a quarter to half an inch. Won't be that noticeable but will allow you to drive in straight areas..

Or get ahold of shorter rubber bumpers

As far as the upside down thing, the triangular flange on the cat. converter it mounts to wouldn't allow the attaching pipe to get flipped upside down, and I checked the hanger position and they are correct... both hangers welded higher up and angled down.

Eh, it's on there right, it's just not as tucked up into the chassis as much as it should be, or could be rather. I dunno. Sh*ts bogus. lol. It actually looks as though it hangs down almost as low as my stock junk, though I understand the much larger diameter piping does change that a little. Hell, the resonator looks smaller in diameter than the stock one, though my eyes could be deceiving me.

Anyway, I forgot I've actually lowered it a little since that pic.
Not by much, but the rear perches are cranked all the way down now.

Yeah, I'm definitely not looking for zip ties to be what's holding up my $500 exhaust... though it was a novel temporary fix. I mean, we all know with a few zip ties, a little duct tape, and some jb weld, you can Macguyver some serious ***** when you're in a pinch.

Holy rediculous camber Robin!

Yeah, it's definitely lower now. What sucks though is that I'm used to it being super-de-duper low, and raising it would bug the crap out of me. I feel like I'd be driving a jeep or something. I know it sounds lame, but after being dumped, riding in a car that actually has functional suspension is really noticeable to me. I dunno, a little OCD with my ride-height i guess. Nah, but seriously, I probably will end up raising it back up to how it was in the first pic. I mean, there is a fine line between having a nice low aggressive stance and being so low that you make threads about your exhaust scraping just driving down the street... and I think I've crossed that line.

With a little raise in my suspension (boo... lol jk) , coupled with modding the hangers and getting shorter rubber attaching mechanism thingies... I think I'll be ok.

BTW, has anyone else had problems like this, or am I just retarded?

Is this thread a joke? You lower your car 5 inches and are upset that things drag on the street?

You should just remove your springs, they aren't doing anything anyways... you'll be lighter and faster!

Wholey Sh*t Thats low, mines about a half inch higher lol.

Yeah, I meant for the zip ties to be a temporary fix that would hold long enough to get you to the shop safely, hell id say just adjust the coilovers and raise it up an inch and a half up in the back and that would get you there and then when you get back home drop it back down and problem solved.
