Should i Buy an '87 CRX Si?
hey . . .yeah, im a newbie on here, but i figured that everyone starts somehow. i know where i can pick up an 89 crx si for somewhere between 1 and 2 grand. its a five speed (which is one of the major selling points for me) but i dont know too much about how the model in general can perform. obviously, its made for speed. anyone know anything about that era? the guy who owns it said that he doesnt trust it because theres no warning when something goes wrong . . .it just kicks. any thoughts? thanks!
87 or 89? They're two quite different cars.
And, "Made for speed"? Don't think so. Stock CRX SI will be waxed by just about any performance-minded car out there.
If you have the knowledge and ability to work on your own car, and it has no rust, buy it.
If you don't like the idea of swapping your engine in the near future, I probably wouldn't get it.

third gen civics are the shyte, yeah they are hard to do swaps in (comparatively) but they are somewhat lighter and a lot of fun to tool around in, especially if you are getting a car for cheap.

Here's what I did with mine

Actually they are very nice cars as long as the don't have a lot of rust. There is still a good amount of aftermarket availble for them. I have seen a dry sump EW-4 motor (the one from a 1st Gen CRX Si) that makes around 200whp!
Easy to work on... light weight... retro.... and not too many people have them
