im in the process of piecing a turbo kit together and i was going to buy a 255 fuel pump and install it before the turbo and injectors were installed. Can i swap out the old one and put the 255 in with my stock injectors and still run the same way n/a?

 

The injectors are still going to put out the same amount of fuel so you will have no problems. The only thing that would be bad is having a fuel pump that cant keep up with the demand of a motor setup.

Incorrect. Increase fuel pressure at the rail and what will you get? More fuel flow at the same injector pulse width. Its a simple concept. I can't believe so many people didn't catch this one. Before you tell me about the fuel pressure regulator, understand it can only bleed off so much. With a stock regulator and that pump, your fuel pressure at the rail is going to skyrocket. Don't believe me? Install a gauge and then put that pump in. Tell me what it does to your fuel pressure Why do you want to put one of those damn pumps on your car anyways?

 

i had a walbro 255 from previous owner in my EG and i didn't know

i threw my b16 in there and it ran like ****, wouldn't idle etc etc etc

put an ITR fuel pump and ran like a charm

i'm eventually going to install a turbo kit, so i figured if i didn't install everything at once i would install a few parts at a time. So i was going to put the fuel pump in when i recieved it .. this way i woudlnt have to install it when the kit is going on.

i guess i'll hold off .. i'm not even sure how long it takes to install

 

You'd need an adjustable fuel pressure regulator to lower the fuel pressure back down to stock after you put in the fuel pump. The fuel pumps always pump at the same rate and depend on the regulator to control the pressure and return the unused fuel back to the tank.

 

more specifically, you would need the AEM adjustable fuel pressure regulator so you could adjust the size of the return orfices. Even with the largest sized orfice, I was off the charts rich with my greddy turbo back in the day. That pump, in my opinion, is complete overkill.

well i gues i can hold off on installing it until i need to.. but will i need a fuel pressure regulator even when i have my kit installed? .. its a t3 42.48 set up .. i'm looking to put down about 200whp. is it necessary for me to buy a fpr so that i dont run rich?

The stock pump will support those numbers. You're wasting your money and time otherwise. I had 0 problem with my stock pump on my boosted SOHC setup. Yes, I have the means of properly monitoring air/fuel ratios also. Get larger injectors, get some form of management like Crome and you will be fine. I would reccomend 440's for what you are planning.

 

^He's right! If you're going to run a stock setup (stock internals) and around 200/210 hp, you'll be fine with the stock unit. Though I read in Helms anyway that our stock unit is a 222cc model pump? but maybe it's rate is different than aftermarket...who knows.

 

Christ, just run a stock fuel pump.
