Default AAMCO vs. stealership

I've got a 98 Accord with about 130,000 miles. The automatic transmission is slipping and sometimes refuses to shift up. AAMCO tells me they're getting a couple of error codes (P1739 / Po730), but they'll need to take it apart to really find out what's wrong which will cost $650, then the cost of whatever they find.

The dealership will swap out the transmission with a re-built one from honda for $2500.

I've read that the Honda put in some pretty crappy transmissions in the 98 accords, so maybe it makes more sense to get a new one vs AAMCO rebuilding one.

Any thoughts?

new one vs aamco that doesn't know what the problem is

I would suggest calling American Honda, explain the situation, tell them that you know about the warranty extension on those cars (i think it's up to like 100k now for the trans?) and would like to have yours covered

^ if that doesnt work, try a junkyard. 300 bucks.

i know its hit or miss but 2500 could get you 8 tries. lol

there isnt really any independents tranny shops that can really rebuild honda autos like they can domestic ones. i wouldnt get it rebuilt. either dealership and gamble with the junkyard.

yards usually give 30 day warranties
