What are the top brands for motor oil for performance.

Right now, the best ones that I heard are

AMS
LUCAS
ENEOS


which is best or is there anything better.

 

Oh god, yeah those are good oils, along with about 20 other makes and brands...

I also have had excellent experience with Royal Purple.

It's really a matter of preference really when it comes down to these certain oils. Just like ITR colors, although we know FBP is the true winner.

Most everything &gt; Mobil 1 (fake synthetic)

 

After reading that thread on Mobil1, i went to Autozone seeking this "German" Castrol Syntec but didnt exactly know what i was looking for. Can anyone that knows of this brand of oil tell me what to look for to determine if it is the German made or not? Do i look for a "Made in Germany" label or is it a certain bottle?

I just made the change before Expo. Didn't burn a drop, nor did it discolor all weekend. I don't think I'm going to change it before CMP!!!

 

I use Motul in the DC2.

Just went through a three-day driving event, total of 14 sprint sessions. Didn't use a drop.

Show me proof that it needs to be changed that soon.

 

Just get any major brand of synthetic oil (not synthetic blends) and you'll get 99 percent of the benefits compared with conventional oil. That other 1 percent of difference between one synthetic and another is too small to worry about.

I've been very happy using Mobil 1 and, more recently, Pennzoil Platinum.

I hear this stuff that Doostur uses is now available in 5W30 full synthetic, check the label to make sure it's made in Germany:

Amsoil has some great products for sure, there are others that are great as well. I'm also using amsoil and ~4500 miles of use shows no consumption and only slight discoloration (I can actually see it on the dipstick now )

I'm with Dave on this one. That old saw about "3000 miles or 3 months" was prevalent 50-60 years ago. The technology and quality of oils and cars have improved dramatically since those days. If you feel better changing your oil that frequently, go ahead - it won't hurt anything but your wallet - but I think you can go longer than that. I do. (I also think you shouldn't extend your change interval just because you use synthetic.)

Whatever you do, though, don't go longer than Honda's recommendation (7500 miles or 12 months, or more frequently if you meet their criteria for "severe conditions" - LITFM for more info).

Absolutely. However, if using a quality oil, and if you are performing UOAs to determine a proper OCI for your car/oil selection, extended change intervals are fine

 

I use Amsoil too, and its great BUT....you should still search. This has been covered exactly 984,403 times.

Here's a bugger for ya Ken, the Integra owners manual lists changing the oil every x,xxx miles but IIRC it doesn't reccommend changing the filter with every oil change? Correct me if I'm mitaken but I remember such an oddity in the manual like that. I know I change my filter Every oil change which is now either once a season or before every event. Or does that also fall into the severe service? I can't remember off hand and am trying to kill time between writing menus and doing other paper work that I just hate

I was talking to your dad about this before leaving Expo... We were comparing oils and usage. You guys were using Amsoil and I was using Mobil1, we both had the same usage (not much, if any), and yours was a tad bit lighter than mine at the end of the event with what I thought was the same amount of driving. Later, I remembered that I had driven 250 miles on top of the ragging at expo.

I cant complain about Mobil1 aswell, I've been using it for years. I do, however, want to try some amsoil....

 

Mobile 1 in my engine just burns too much oil when I used it. Between 1 to 2 qts between oil changes when it saw high RPMs often.

I tried Royal Purple and it doesn't burn a single drop, being the same weight.

I remember that, too. I believe it said to change the oil filter every other oil change. But I changed mine out every time.

Back to topic, I will use Amsoil from here on out. No more M1 for me.

It's the race version of Amsoil.

Here's what it says in the service manual (I just double-checked, pages 4-4 through 4-7 in the '98 service manual, but the owner's manual should be identical):

- For regular conditions, change the oil every 7500 miles or 12 months, whichever comes first, and change the oil filter every 15K miles or 12 months, whichever comes first.

- For severe conditions - which they define as mostly (not just occasionally) short trips, hot weather (e.g. Vegas or Phoenix), trailer towing, dusty roads - change the oil and oil filter every 3750 miles or 6 months, whichever comes first.

I change my filter every oil change, though.
