Burnout Q.
dont do it with street tires...
if you have slicks,
pull up so ur tires are just out of the water, hold the ebrake up, get the tire rpm up and wait for the slicks to start to pull you out of the water, then release the ebrake and stay in the gas for a sec. to get out of the water...

in the drag racing forum there is a rule book thread. go in there and read the nhra rule book it tells you everything you need to safely and properly race down a drag strip
Street tires period, only thing you burnout with is drag radials and slicks.
Doing a burnout with regular street tires will cause them to be even more slick. Some tracks force you to go through the water, in that case you just want to "dust" them off persay, get them dry.

Pull into the burnout box, stop where the track official tells you to (usually at the end of the water line), pull up e-brake handle, put car in 2nd, rev up to 6000-7000rpm, drop the clutch, spin tires until smoke comes through vents... unless it's hot out, then go maybe 4 seconds, release ebrake, go to line.

Im not tryin to get into a big debate, but burnouts on some street tires do make a difference. I have falken ziex's 205/50/15 and at 35psi and no burnout i was cutting 2.5-2.6 60ft's with massive wheel spin. Dropping the tire pressure to about 18 psi and a decent burnout and im doin consistent 1.94-1.95 60ft. My tires were workin better than my buddys with BFG drag radials.

I think dropping the tire pressure from 35psi to 18psi was a bigger factor in dropping your 60ft time than doing the burnout. 1.9's on street tires is very good nonetheless.

Ya ive made about 45 passes already trying every possible configuration. With em at 20-18 psi and no burnout i was doin 2.2-2.1 60's. I didnt cut a 1.9 till i did a burnout. The tires get so hot and soft and its just amazing how well they hook. During bracket racing just about everyone was coming over to check out my tires and especially the import guys. The fwd guys with drag radials were only doin 2.00's Im just sayin, even on street tires when done properly, the burnout box can be of good use.
As far as street tires go, it's not necessary to do a full burnout. Just a quick spin to dust them off. People make it out to be a huge deal though if you do a nice burnout. I did decent burnouts in my camaro on street tires(99 with a 6-speed) and always cut a 1.9x 60'. On the street, never do a burn out. You're tires heat up, and when you roll out they pick up all the grease and grime on the road. But at the track there's much less random grease and stuff, so the tires will still hook.
