Default WideBand Shoot Out! Let the Battle Begin!!

Dunno if this been posted or not, but this should help answer alot of peoples questions on what widebands are the best. I think its a little bias on how they tested it...but pretty neat how they did it..

I myself bought a FAST wideband unit couple weeks ago, mostly for the ease of hooking it up from car to car, they make a windshield mount thats very nice...

So let the Battle BEGIN!!!

good info, im a little upset that the plx scored the lowest for accuracy. also i wonder if the positioning of the sensor had anything to do with it cause i know generally a vertical alignment is recommended. maybe just for longevity reasons??

I'd almost argue that in general, having 8+ sensors in a ring like that will make a differance, as you generally don't want the sensor <1ft behind anything that will disrupt flow. But the biggest gripe would be the fact you used leaded gas to simulate wear. I'd have expected to see the control boxes and sensors swaped between each other to make sure they were just 'worn' from the gas, not literally damaged.

The innovate while it works, it honestly imho is a POS when it comes to reliability and sensor life.

The best wideband I've ever used is a Motec plm with an NTK sensor, which is closely tied with an Autronic model B also with an NTK. These widebands offer great life and never have erratic readings unlike the innovate, with its "sensor timing bs errors".

I depend on a wideband sensor everyday at my work, and if I had to depend on an innovate I would be pulling my hair out in frustration.

I am kinda satistfied with the zeitronix results, pretty decent for the price, and the features it included, also it scored poor on the ease of use, but I think its really easy to use and understand. well glad I did not get a plx.

are these people retarded ? this particular wideband has 2 analog outputs....(which can be tied into an ecu/guage/datalogger...etc... )

my opinion is that they(the testers) are biased.

I dont think this is the best method of testing and I dont think their results even close to the end all judgement of these various units. I am not saying its all wrong just that I dont think it was very structured testing and the results could be affected by such.

Just a random thought as well, how do you test 8 units simultanously... esp. if they had problems with logging or no logging was possible on many of the units.

i'm using the oem honda NTK $330 5 wire wideband with a techedge box and display, works beautifully...

it was used on race gas 3 years, and then about 2 years on a all motor setup on pump gas, no problems with the o2 sensor...techedge display F'd up, but they fixed it for about $38

takes less than 1 minute to warm up and start reading...no calibration stuff to fool with on the techedge

Yeah, the test would mean a lot more to me if it showed reliability and sensor life with each meter. I've seen HUGE differences in sensor life with different wide bands, something that's pretty important for a typical user, and VERY important for a tuner.

all the money i have spent in replacing sensors, i could have bought a motec wideband by now. there is nothing more frustrating than when a sensor dies when a car is strapped down on the dyno!!

HAHA, no ****! And the dynojet ones fail every 5 cars or so. lol

Spend the money on a good unit and it'll pay for itself in time by not going through sensors every week.

im in the market! i think all the ones in that test suck except for the FJO.

i usually keep 3 dynojet sensors here at all times, and ironically my cheap *** ngk wideband's sensor is 2 years old. however i normally just use it when the dynojet one dies....it is pretty much dead accurate with the dynojet one if you have them both in the exhaust at all times. and daves right, it does have 2 outputs.

do you use the motec tony? i think the FJO pricing is fair. ive been eyeballing one for a while.

I use an FJO with the NTK sensor. The Motec is the best, hands down. I bought my FJO before i had the shop and it's been doing so good i can't justify replacing it right now. When it finally takes a ****, i'll definitely get a Motec PLM.

the NTK sensors seem to be the ****. i might have to break down and get one here shortly. it will pay for its self in less than a month i bet lol

I wanted the Motec wb as well....but dam! the price is steep as hell, someday ill get one though

The fjo units are real nice, i had a the plx r-500 for a while, got bored of it, and sold it..plus i didnt need all the freaking options on it, i just need a simple wb that will read afr, simpler the better in my opinion...

Also i wish on the motec wb they would make some type of back light illumination on it, so u can read it if u take it for a test drive at night

Saw this a few days ago. I was not really impressed with the testing.

Me neither.

I wonder if the people who did the tests ever went to high school. Placing the sensors like that leaves for a huge margin of error. Not only that but how did they figure out how far off the sensors were?

Just because the gas is supposed to be X doesn't mean it actually is going to be.
