Insurance Question
This may have been covered before but I have a question. After I bought the R I called my insurance company (which is Progressive) and a couple things happened. First off my insurance went up $60.00/mo changing from the 2007 Si to the R, and second when I inquired what value I could have my car covered for, they said it was basically based off the NADA price for the car. That really pisses me off since we all know our cars are worth more than what book says they are! Do you guys know of any other insurance companies that will insure it for what it would cost to replace it if something happens? Thanks.

Go get it appraised and then insure it for the appraised value. That might raise it up some more, but its worth it if it gets stolen.
By the way, who do you have? I can't believe the insurance is higher than the '07 SI. My 2 ITR's equal out to about 110 a month...ful coverage.

Allstate was no good for me in the end. I was with them since 18 before I made the switch to Progressive a couple months ago. When I made the switch I started saving about $90.00/month and got better coverage.

my friend is dealing with progressive right now and they are complete ****. i would never insure my car with them after hearing of his problems with them.
i think more top rate insurance companies (like aaa, state farm) will insure your car for an appraised value. i remember when putting theft on my eg i asked about insuring it for more, and they said the monthly price would just reflect the increase in value.
(insurance is calculated by (simply) premium = risk * value. if you increase the value, the premium should do the same.)
in the end, yeah, you will be paying more. but you should expect this with a better insurance company.

I called USAA about this. They actually have a team that will look into the going rate of the car. That means its not just off NADA or Kelly blue book but what people are paying and what they are selling for. They told me that every time I came accross an add for an ITR similir to mine in year, mileage etc to print it out. If it ever got stolen you could present that as proof. In addition they will cover anything that you have receipts for so keepem.
I will do that. They seem to be very nice customer service wise to deal with over the phone. And at the same time I know all insurance companies are the same in the end. I just want to make sure I get what my car is worth if something happens.

i dont think this could be further from the truth. insurance is different.
some people think spoon is so much better then oem.
but thinking aaa/state farm is better then progessive/freeway is based on something. and its not marketing.
when both of my cars were stolen, state farm was perfect. i couldnt have asked for more. receipts = no problem. everything turned out good.
my friend who is dealing with progressive has the opposite story. they said his receipts added not value to his car, regardless of the upgrade. they basically told him that his receipts are worthless. doesnt sound like an insurance company i want.
you truly do get what you pay for when it comes to insurance.

Depends on what it is, bad comparison...
I've said this before, but back in the year 2000, Octoberish... I was shopping for insurance by phone, called numerous insurance companies to get quotes. At the time I was around 21/22 years old. Over the phone, with many KNOWN insurance companies, and with a clean driving record mind you. I was quoted no less then $488 a MONTH, yes a month. and they all ranged between that all the way up to almost $900, a MONTH. This almost shattered my dreams of an ITR. My dad being as smart as he is tells me to check out http://www.lowestpremiums.com and I ended up getting full coverage with Allstate for $121 a month. It's off topic, but that website had me running up and down my street yelling WOOOHOOO!!!
The weird thing was, I even CALLED an Allstate office and they're 1 of about 12 quotes that were over that $488 a month mark. Pretty weird.

This is what ALL major insurance companies do, including Progressive. They don't just look it up in NADA or Kelly. They will pay you the car's market value, what it would cost to buy a similar car.
However - there's always a "however", right? - all insurance companies are not the same. Some are more generous to begin with, and with some, you will have to fight and negotiate and, if you think their offer is insufficient, you must provide evidence to back up your opinion (e.g. classified ads). So even though all companies theoretically pay you full market value, some make it easier than others.
You're a lot better off choosing one company and sticking with it over the years (they tend to treat long-time customers better). Don't wait until you have a claim to find out that your insurance company sucks; not only are you going to suffer in the settlement process, but it's then tougher to switch companies after you have a claim. If you don't think your current company treats its customers well - based on personal experience as well as survey results (see below) - switch NOW to a company with good service (and, hopefully, decent prices as well) and stick with them.
Amica and USAA are often cited as the best auto insurance companies around, but USAA only offers policies to those associated with the military. State Farm generally does pretty well too. When I had a claim some years ago, the "good hands" people at Allstate only gave me one finger, and you can guess which one it was. You can see ratings of the major auto insurance companies here as well as in Consumer Reports.

I switched from allstate like I said to save money. Im in PHX AZ but maybe I will check out that website. I'm paying like $280 something a month for full coverage on the Type R and the Speed 3. I just hate how much it went up for a cheaper car.

Make sure you ask for an "agreed value" policy, not a "stated value" policy. In the event of a loss, the insurance company will pay you the specified amount if you have an "agreed value" policy, but not necessarily if you have a "stated value" policy.
I posted about this difference in the past, right here. That prior post includes a link to this website of an insurer of specialty cars.

I saw that you have progressive.
