You have to remove the plastic trim on the parcel shelf to get the speakers out

yes sir
it has been a really long time since i ever took all of that crap out of my car but i believe you remove the 2 side pannels then you can remove the top plastic pannel
all of which pop out then you will see the speakers right there in the parcel shelf
hope this helps

I just did this today in my '98 EX coupe. You do not have to remove the rear seat. Honda doesn't even recommend it.
1. Fold down the rear seat backs.
2. From inside the trunk, remove the lock cylinder trim and release the six clips holding the rear shelf to the body (four along the rear glass, two at the front corners of the speaker grilles).
3. Unplug the high mount brake light connector.
4. Remove the four side trim panel clips (behind the sides of the rear seat backs) and pull the left and right side trim panels loose.
5. Pull the rear shelf towards you to release it from the body flange.
6. Pull up on the rear shelf to clear the side trim panels.
7. Remove the left and right seat belts from the rear seat belt guides.
8. Remove the rear shelf.
Now you can get to the rear speakers which are each held in with four screws and one connector each.
Oh, and a clip puller will make this job a lot easier. You can get them at your local auto parts store. It will look like a tiny pry bar with a slot in the middle of the business end.
