Air Conditioner not working? Condenser? Charge? Compressor?
Hi folks. I did a search on this and found nothing.
My air conditioner works very well for about 20 minutes. Then after a while it doesn't work. Meaning it's blowing out very cold air for about 20 minutes. Then it blows warm air.
So I turn off the AC because it's blowing warm air. I drive with the windows open for a few minutes.
But then if i turn it on again later it will blow cold air again.
Do i need a new compressor? Do i need a new charge?
(The blower motor seems just fine.)
EDIT for Correction: When i did a search I found many threads on AC but none of the symptoms matched my problem.

it wouldnt blow cold if it needed a charge. when it stops blowing cold is the compressor still engaged or has the clutch released meaning is the compressor still working.
Civic and EFHatch,
thanks for replying.

I'm sorry but i don't know how to tell if the clutch is still engaged. Maybe something in the Haynes manual can clue me in.

I just had my a/c serviced because I was having the same problem. Didn't help because the compressor is shot. It's definately the compressor. The shop gave me a quote of $1000 parts & labor using all genuine honda parts. Crazy! I Gotta find a cheaper place!
91tealHatch,
Thanks for replying. That's exactly what my mechanic told me. That sucks.
Since it starts off blowing real cold air I thought something might be salvageable.

sounds like a compressor issue to me.
sounds like it's getting too hot and then thermal protection locks it out.
could be low on gas
could have a dirty condenser coil
if you posted up the pressures i could help more.

Anyone else? Does everyone agree that it's the most expensive part that's broken and it's not anything easy?
