wat prelude gen. is better
Speaking strictly performance, 4th gen Vtecs have the fastest 1/4. They are slightly lighter. If your looking for the best handling for track or auto cross go with a 5th gen SH model with Active Torque Transfer System. Problem with the ATTS is that if you plan to heavily modify your engine anything over about 220HP disable the system. Which pretty much leaves you with 300lbs of useless weight. Oh and one more thing, on the 4th gens 94 was the first year they came with H22s from the factory.

well I don't think atts weigh 300lbs, and 4th gen h22 started on 93..

My bad, I was just going by what I've heard for the weight of the ATTS. And for some reason I think you can't pull up the H22 till 94 at AutoZone.

they are both good!
If you care about mileage and no experience about engine rebuild, go 5th gen cuz some of them have less miles, unless it's been abused. Most 4th gen have lot of miles unless motor has been rebuilt.
I had 4th gen and currently have 5th gen now. If I have to choose, both of them have h22 and less miles, I would go for 4th gen.
4th gen is good looking as well, but I like the 5th gen looks cuz they way the body looks like modern 3rd gen.

a clean 4th gen will blow you away, looks alone. not to mention they're lighter.
i used to love the 5th gens but after awhile i got really bored of them, now I think the 4ths have a lot more potential.

I'm a recycled teenager nowadays, so you can guess I'm old enough to have had the pleasure of all the generation ludes right up to present 5th gen, and it's a crying shame we can't have a 6th gen.
Although your question relates to the 4th and 5th, if I had to say the one I most enjoyed it would be the 3rd gen though, at that time it was a giant leap in front of other comparable cars.
But hey 4th or 5th they are both damn good cars, and I would not be without my present 5th gen, but I had to trade up from the 4th to stay loyal to the lude.

4th gen all the way.
h22 or h23 (avoid soch unless boosting)*(h23 good for boosting)(h22, excellent even without modding).
4th and 5th look very different soo its almost based on your aesthetic preference. The 4th gens stock look less appealing than 5ths, but with a decent body kit the 4th gens look disgusting/amazing.
4th gen motors can be found with low km's. So don't let KM/miles determine weather or not you buy a 4th gen. If it runs good, doesn't burn oil/SMOKE out the back, no knocking (ticking is okay) no rusting in rear corner panels, than no problem
Watch out for 5th gen with automatic tranny (or just stick with manual period)
happy hunting dude, you wont be disappointed with Honda either way.
I had a 3rd gen lude though and it wasn't too shabby either. got over 300000k off first motor, than gas tank rusted from top, and windshield cracked so the 500 I would have put into it to fix, I saved up and traded in 3rd gen for my 4th.

Which do you like better?

Performance is pretty similar between a stock 4G VTEC and a 5G Base model (H22 VTEC also). Many parts are also interchangable as far as suspension and engine components.

I have 2 4th gens and a 5th gen. My turbo 4th gen is way faster then my stock 5th gen. The 4th gen seats are more comfortable, i liek the dash and gauge cluster setup better in the 4th gen, but i like the room of the 5th gen. If i were to buy another and they cost wasnt an option, i would buy a 5th gen simply for the fact that i can put my carset in the back and the passanger could still ride confortable.
Well if money is somewhat of an issue, just buy a 4th gen. 5th gens aren't really that expensive anymore but if your like most of the people on here, you will want to modify your car. Modifying your car = money. If I bought a 5speed 4th gen when I was looking to buy a car... it would most likely be pushn like 400+whp by now
. I bought a 5th gen for not so cheap, then I did a 5speed swap, and now I im boosting my car. So much money has gone into this car already. If I had the choice again I would still go with the 5th just because of looks. If you like the 3rd gen preludes you will most likely like the 5th gens. They have very similar body lines and style. Both are not bad choices tho... look through the picture thread and do some research on both. As most people have mentioned already... the differences are mostly cosmetic. So you choose
