Default CEL Code One

Hey guys, first off thanks for posting how to check the CEL and codes.

My car is throwing Code 1...

Recently put full exhaust on and i think this is the cause, just wondering do you guys think i should just disconnect the battery to restart, or go back to the shop and ask them to take a look at it?

I didnt know there were two Oxygen sensors. I am guessing "A" is the one in the exhaust and "B" is the extra not attached to anything?

Any advise or help would be great, thanks Deryk.

are you running a test pipe or a cat? it depends on what year car you have if you are obd1 you only have one 02 sensor obd2 you will have 2.

A is the one at the end of the exhaust manifold/header, B is the one in the cat. There shouldnt be one that isnt attached to anyhting......it wouldnt do anything if that was the case

I have straight 2.5" piping from the header back, obviously with no O2 attached, over ride the code and call it a day.

CEL#1 = primary O2 sensor. replace the O2 or check the wiring of the primary O2. located infront of the cat. (if you don't have a cat, use your imagination)
CEL#2 = secondary O2. can be simulated for use of test pipe.

the primary can should not be removed or simulated. The ECU uses it to determine how much fuel to push into the engine. Faking the signal can result in a dangeriously lean or dangeriously rich running engine.

as mentioned OBD1 ECUs dos not use the secondary O2.

can you just plug it back in, or do you have a test pipe without a bung, or what is the case?

I believe that you can leave it plugged in, wrap it in foil, and push in through the hole in the floorboard. It is a way of fooling the ecu because it is seeing cleaner air than that of the primary o2.

give it a shot. I know many people have used this trick for years.

i have a test pipe thats why there is no place for the second one.

I have a just disconnected the battery engine light went out, hopefully the computer was just reading the new exhaust.

anyone else experienced this?

I have yet to figure out how this works. the O2 will see perfectly clean air... unless you have an exhaust leak. Perfectly clean air never happens in a car so the ECU will set a CEL eventually.

the code will come back, it takes time for the ECU to set it in the first place.

tried and true ways to get rid of the CEL - neet-o H-T revises my post to redo h t u n e r links to honda-tech
no O2 bung - http://www.mkiv.com/techarticl...lator/
I'm in the final stages of putting together a detailed step-by-step how-to on the second option. (I'm picky and busy so progress is slow)

One last thought for this post... secondary O2 out of the exhaust steam will not EVER cause CEL1. That's the code for primary O2. So we may be way off target on this conversation.
