im running a b18a1 ls with a OBD0 PR4 ecu, and im bout to order a chipped ecu from xenocron.com. my question is how does a 2 step work if its in the ecu program? would it be ok to run a 2 step from the ecu program or would that not be ok? i need some advice here. aslo what exactly doe sa 2 step do. i have heard alot bout it just dont really understand it.
The “two step” is a feature of the rom (read only memory) editor that people use. The rom editor allows people to change the factory setting on the factory ecu. The edit is burned to a chip and installed in the ecu. Now the ecu will reference the “chip” (rom) to perform all it’s duties in making the car run under various conditions.
The two step feature on most rom editors will cut fuel at a certain rpm (picked by the programmer and written onto the chip) when the vss (vehicle speed sensor your speedometer) is under a set speed say 5mph. this allows you to press and hold the throttle down while sitting still and keep the rpms at a set level for launch.
Thing is traction conditions change whit weather and road conditions. I have mine set at like 3600rpm, on a sunny day on the street my wheels will spin a little bit and then the car goes like hell, however at the track my car would bog like hell if I tried to launch at that rpm. So I have to go into my computer and burn a new chip for around 6000 rpm for the track. So it can be a good thing or it can be a limitation.

ok i read on a forum that when you have 2 step through your ecu it cuts the fuel, but when you have it through msd it cuts ignition and misfires for launching whats the difference? also whats your set-up? im running a b18a1 with a b16 tranny, that has real short gear ratios(65 MPH in 5th gear im taching 4000 RPM) and i kinda dont want to change chips for track and street i want to use same, but if i have to i will.
msd would be best for you, and yes it cuts spark. lot of retarded debate goes on about what is better, you can search and read that. if you want to see my set-up look in my sig. good luck
