Anyone going to Gingerman / CGI Event Jun 17th?
I'm looking to go to my first track event that Monday, Jun 17th. Anyone else planning on taking that day off and going to the track?
A friend of mine is going, and we wanted to split the track time between the two of us. Does anyone know if this is permitted? I went to:
http://www.cgimotorsports.com
and there was a link to Contact them. I emailed the guy weeks ago, never got a response to my question.

I won't be there on the 17th but if I can get the car ready by July, I'll attend one of the July schools. if you still have not received a response to your email, try calling the number listed on the web site.

Although Phil has gotten a bad rep lately (and some of it seems justified!), he has always been real good with me. Just send him an email or give him a call and he will work with you provided the date isnt full.
No, they will not let you split the track time, entry fee is per person. I am almost positive on this.
Also know that CGI does not protect your liability while you are on the track nor do they have adaquate safety measures. If you are ever to be involved in any kind of accident while racing, pray it is not at a CGI event.
There are other schools that have booked dates at Gingerman such as Speedtrial, etc. I would suggest looking into those.

Good luck with your first track experience, Gingerman is a great place to learn.

Running a CGI/Gingerman event? Make sure and bring:
> Your own corner workers
> A couple of fire bottles
> An EMT or two
> A priest

If you are concerned about liability insurance for track events, your best bet is either (a) don't do track events, or (b) get your own liability insurance.

Does Speedtrial provide liability insurance for participants in their track events (not just their own liability)? (I doubt it.)

I didn't assume anything, just presenting my best guess. Call Speedtrial yourself and ask, if you're that curious.
Regarding liability insurance, we'll just have to disagree. If this is a big deal for you, I still think you're better off getting your own.

I'm not sure everyone understands this insurance issue.
The organising body provides liability insurance. But that doesn't mean your individual cars are covered for collision.
Everybody knows that, right?
You're on your own w/collision insurance.

AFAIK, what that means is this. If Joe runs into a tire wall, he has to go to his own insurance company to ask them to pay for the damage to his car under his collision coverage (or maybe comprehensive, since it's a one-car accident). If they refuse, and Joe claims that Bill ran him off the track and it was Bill's fault, then Bill's insurance company handles the claim under its liability coverage. But if Bill's insurance company refuses to pay the claim, then you can go to the organizer's insurance policy if that policy has liability coverage for each of the participants in the event.
Is that your understanding, Grandpa George?
If so, it's really secondary coverage that isn't all that likely to get used...
BTW, Bob Bondurant is widely regarded as one of the top racetrack driver education schools in the country. Their standard insurance does not cover student liability or damage to their cars. Each individual driver can purchase insurance at rates of $50-100 per day.

That's correct. That's why it's considered secondary coverage.
Also, since it's liability coverage, the claimant would have to be able to PROVE that it's somebody else's fault.

I think we should start a new thread on insurance at track events. this is an important topic and I believe many people do not fully understand who covers what when things go wrong at a school/lapping day.
