Default Main Relay symptoms?

I search and there has been many main relay threads but I did not see any thread that stated their motor can starts if you give it a little gas. Long story short.....

Car never had any issues, but today my buddy stopped at the gas station and now car wont start. Turn ignition over but it dies right away. If he give it gas it'll stay on, idles normal, but when I release the gas pedal it dies. If he turn the car "on", just one click I don't hear the fuel pump.

So I'm guessing it's main relay or fuel pump. I'm just confused because I thought if it's the main relay or fuel pump your motor will not start even if you put some gas into it?

Any suggestions, my buddy is still stuck at the gas station as I type LOL.

I'm thinking the fuel pump is working, but on the way out. However, if the engine dies as soon as the key is released, it could be the ignition switch. If it runs for a few seconds, then dies off, I suspect the fuel pump. Here's a link with some troubleshooting info. Good luck

More than likely your ignition switch because the engine will not start without fuel.... which both the main relay and fuel pump play a VERY important part.

Yeah I believe its one of the three, but if I had to guess it is the main relay. Lights and everything works so that is the only reason I doubt it might be the ignition switch.

BTW car has 190, that's a lot.

easy way to tell if it's the main relay or fuel pump. Stick your ear to the carpet (center and right behind the rear seat in the trunk) while your buddy turns his key to the aux position. If you hear a humming, it's neither of the above.

The normal way for the main relay to fail, you will have spark, the fuel injectors will fire, but no fuel because the fuel pump isn't running.

The fuel pump should run for 2 seconds when you turn the key to "ON". It won't run if you only turn it to "AUX" and you won't hear it if you turn it all the way to "START".

JDMB20TDA, I'd look for stuff related to the alarm.

I checked around Under the dash after I had removed the alarm, There were some wires going to a switch but I removed them and cant find where they were connected, is there anything that coulda been causing all these symptoms by the flick of a switch?

Maybe that's some kind of kill-switch. If so, the car won't run until you find where the wires go & connect them.

Power to the ECU? Ground?
Maybe it was the power feed TO the main relay?
All anyone can do is guess. You'll have to check just about everything. Don't take anything for granted.
