McMaster for the die (it's like $32, blah), and I actually found a 12x1.25 metric tap at Ace Hardware by my house the other day!

reaaally?? ACE hardware?
Use cutting oil or at least motor oil (lots), be gentle, and don't torque too hard on it if it sticks. Back it out, clean tap, and re-insert if it starts to get tight. Cheap taps break easy, and I think you are going to be tapping the crank, not the pulley. Wrecking a $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ crank with a $10 Chinese tap will suck more than a poose lined with sandpaper.

Try finding your local Snap-On rep. from their website -- I was looking for this exact piece a couple months ago and none of the hardware stores near me had them. The Snap-On guy had several of them in his truck. I think it was around $8.
last time i checked, the crank pulley doesn't have any threads in it.
I have a 12x1.25 in my garage somewhere if you are in desperate need, philly suburbs.

Don't know offhand. Possible to bring the crank bolt with you and lay tap onto it to compare to the tap? Or good tool supplier (and possibly Snap On, etc. reps) will have a thread guage.
