Default pepboys tires

not advertising for them but pepboys is having a buy 3 get the 4th tire free.
and well im in need of tires so i tought free is hard to beat. For my tire size(195/55R15) they only had the following choices.

hankook optimo h418
difinity vx700
futura touring VR
kuhmo ecsta ASX

i was leaning more towards the hankook. these tires are for my integra gsr. Its a daily driver with some weekend drives and spirited driving. i live in texas so snow and cold weather is not so much the worry. its more the hot weather.

what do you guys think of those choices and is it even worth the free tire?
thanks
cassio

The tires you mentioned are definitely not performance tires. I personally think that tires are very important, especially if you drive "spirited"-ly . You may not have snow, but you still have rain.

I never heard anything (good or bad) about those tires. Brand wise, I'll take the kumho, they are good in general, and being budget tires.

Sorry, not much help here.

These are mostly LOW performance tires. The one decent tire in the group is the Kumho ASX, which is a very good all-season tire - but all-seasons are for people who need to use the same tires in occasional snow as in moderate to warm temperatures. Since you live in an area where it doesn't get cold, you're MUCH better off with good summer tires, which perform better than all-seasons (except in snow or frigid cold).

In 195/55-15, I recommend the Avon Tech M500 ($61/tire from the Tire Rack) or the Kumho SPT ($62/tire). Both offer very good performance on dry pavement, excellent in rain, and last a long time. And I bet you they don't cost any more than getting the crappy tires you listed at Pep Boys (even with getting one free).

By the way, I would suggest that you change the profile for your username (by clicking on "My Profile") and change your location to Texas. Right now it sounds like you're in Hawaii, and people might assume that when giving you advice for tires, car parts, etc.

No, your gona be awfully pissed when you end up spinning out or crashing cause of crap rubber. Save your money and buy decent tirers.

Driving with "spirit" on pep boys rubbers will only end badly.

The ES100 is a very good tire, similar to the Avon Tech M500 and Kumho SPT I already mentioned. I have them on our GS-R.

i have the es100's and pushed them to there limit, havent slipped nor squeaked on me ever. Tread wear is pretty good too.

Never buy from pepboys unless you have to bro. Get the tires from tirerack.com or from a local shop.
