Default Tire spec: 91W 87W what's the difference?

Like the title. If you have 215/45ZR17 91W and 215/45ZR17 87W tires. What's the difference? I know the W rates the speed, but what's the number 91 and 87 doing in front of the speed rating?

The "W" speed rating means that the tire is certified to sustained speeds of 168 mph whereas, the "V" speed rating is only certified to sustained speeds of 149 mph. The load rating is less on the 87V tire, so multiply the load rating weight value of the tire by four to make sure that your maximum loaded vehicle weight isn't greater than this number... and if it is not, then you are good.
