I would check cable connections and I would also have new alt tested. I bought a new alt put it in for 2 days and then batt light came on and I had it tested and it was junk. Duracrap built to fail!

Same thing happened to me. It ended up being the power wire to the fuse box loosened up and began to corrode. Im with toad on this one, check all the wiring

Check grounds, and check for corrosion on the battery terminals as well. All can cause problems. Also, check for proper tension of the alternator belt, seems simple, but it can be missed.

this might be a stupid question but did you check the battery? A bad battery will kill a brand new alt.

Just another suggestion for you, touch a wire from the alternator housing to the head and see if your voltage jumps up. Some alternators have internal grounds and some have to have the housing grounded to the engine (even if they'r both for the same car).
