not much you can do about it.
you aren't the only person experiencing bad mpg's w/ their car although you are the first SI person i have heard having bad mpg's.
hopefully a little more break-in/wear on your motor will increase your mpgs...maybe wait till you hit 5000 miles and see what your mpgs are.

Tell me this - do you shift into neautral when you're coasting?
If so.. Don't! I used to do that (always put it in neutral when I didn't need power), and my gas mileage was ****. No joke.. I avg ~6-8 mpg more after keeping it in gear until I'm near a stop.
Also, how quickly you accelerate has a HUGE impact on gas mileage. I can easily squeeze 33 or so mpg out of my SI when I shift at 2.5k and drive slowly.

yeah, it get's a little better. I'm driving pretty much all city miles and getting 300 miles out of a tank at 8500 miles on my SI. Has definately improved since new. Most dramatically after the first oil change, but don't go changing your oil early or anything.

I used to shift @ 4k in everygear and then throw it in 6th once I was where i needed to be. Because shifting any sooner It just seemed like people were on my ***. But it killed my gas.
Just recently this week I had been shifting sooner in first in second (around 3k) and then shifting around 4k after untill i got where i need to be then throwing it in 6th
with almost a whole tank gone i have hit 300 miles 80 percent freeway. i still have 3 bars left!

I shift like i'm suppose to and i get 270 miles per tank easily. thats with my racecar starts out of toll booths and everything.
EDIT: my car now has 685 miles on it. I've also never let it get below 4 bars on the digi gauge.

When I first got my car I was getting great mileage, 24-28 hitting vtec occasionally.
I am sure it has something to do with the break in motor, because that gas mileage fell greatly shortly after in the high 3000's and 4000's. I was getting 20-23 then.
Now after my oil change, I am back up top again.
See if you improve after your oil change.

I find it funny everyone flamed me when I got my car because I didnt vary speed and I ditched my break-in oil at 1800 miles and I get 32 to the gallon average now. Tisk Tisk.

I'm not saying drive like my mother all the time. Just do it whenever you don't feel the need to speed around.
I think the coasting in neutral is the easiest way to help gas mileage though. It just kills it when you do that for some reason.

i beat the hell outta my car and i still get 28 mpg. i run it around 2500rpm when im cruising and sometimes at 3k. ive got 1900 miles on it. i shift between 4 and 4.5k rpms most of the time, when its cold i shift around 3k rpm
Like others have mentioned, give it some more time and you'll progressively notice an increase in your MPG. I used to average 285 miles per tank but thats now closer to 335 MPT... At 10k miles now.
When you fill up do you top off?
If you do all the fuel your topping off with just overflows in to the evap canister. Alot of people do this and that what their milage is based off of. Don't top off, when the pump shuts off let it be. All the extra gas you squeeze in is just wasted, plus it can mess up your evap system.
