Default Buying new Civic- Got a few Q's???

Well like the title reads, I am buying a new Civic! Ive decided i want an EX 2 door in white with auto transmission. Yeah i know, im not going to be road racer x but its what i need. I do plan on doing mild mods like Intake and Exhaust but thats later... Ive got to own the car first lol...

Alright so the questions begin...

How do you NOT like and Do like about your civic?

I know Honda is known for reliability, but has anyone had any issues with car?

Hows the build quality?

How would you compare it to a tC?

Whats your first or favorite mod?

Anything else i should know or you want to add??

Il let you know a bit about me, My name is Justin, im 17yrs old, Live in miami... I will be banned from the family for buying an Import, since everyone owns either GM, Ford or Jeep... I now own a 1993 Cherokee Country and eat stock or mildly modified civics alive! And get close to 11mpg while doing so lol!!! Thats my reason for buying a Civic... Well guys take care and thanks!

jeeps pwn a lot of cars...my friends eclipse GST got pwnd by a wrangler.

what i dont like about the car...

windshield glare. rear window glare. glare on the gauges...

i have trouble seeing curbs. maybe im too short? but i always get too close. i'm used to driving a truck though...

that's about it for now.

civic is better looking than a tc in my opinion. TC body looks too bulky in the rear. ive never been in one though...the front end looks cool though..very mean

civic interior is cool. it's what made me want to buy the car. love the feel of the steering wheel...navi is sweet...seats feel comfy....

and yea

1. you are on a civic forum. Most will say civic is good. Then again why isn't civic good. It didn't get all those awards such as car of the year for nothing.

2.No major issue with the car, nothing a dealership can't fix it for free while it's new.

3.Awards says everything about quality.

4. I know 2 major things to look at when buying a car, one is being fast, one is being fuel efficient. With EX, you get top rated fuel efficiency. tC you get not so top rated speed or fuel.

5. first mod was the domelight

thats awesome, my name is Justin and im also 17 hahah

but i have a LX 5spd.

i kinda dont like how the dashboard is like a desk, especially from the passenger view.

yes its a lil hard to park by curbs but i got used to it.

since your gettin the EX it basically has the same features as the tC. only difference is the engine. 140hp civic vs 16hp tC. id go with the civic, gas mileage is better.
plus i dont like tC's interior. or the look of the audio controls and guages.

i love my MPG's

rides great. its not no benz but its comfy.

build quality? hmm its good too i guess lol

first mod was a downpipe, only because i got it for cheap.

your first mod should be intake or lowering springs, depends if you want a louder engine, or better handling. id go with springs first.

my suggestions.

get the 5spd

Justins will rule the world! Hmm so parking seems to be an issue, are you short? I am 6 ft 1 inch...

I am not getting the 5 speed because for one, im in miami and i see allot of stop and go traffic, secondly i dont like the idea of having to replace a clutch every so often and lastly the automatic gets better fuel economy

Ehh lol im going to need someone to sell me on the 5 speed idea. I learned to drive in an automatic Grand Cherokee and i own an automatic Cherokee... Damn i loved the I6 engine... Jeep really effed up replacing it with a V6... My I6 is a torque monster

i built an intake for it out of 3 inch exhaust pipe and want to town

I'm in Miami too, and yes traffic is a bitch. I don't recommend getting the Manual Transmission unless you're getting the Si!

Only thing I dislike about my car right now is the fact that it's black and since its raining like everyday now it looks like crap. But once its cleaned up, I notice alot of heads turning looking at my "civic".

Honda clutches usually need replacing at around 100,000 miles, but that depends on the driver. Also automatics tend to get worse MPG then manuals, but not by much. Which is why I still don't get why Honda's automatic is more efficient in your case.

I think he is referring to the HID mod, it stands for High Intensity Discharge and is very slick but can be quite costly if you go with the recommended retrofit option. There are plug and plays, but from what I have heard they are complete junk although much cheaper.

I think the domelight mod is the domelight inside the car that turns on when you open a door.

yeah domelight mod I was talking about is just ordering couple of colored led lights that can replace the regular bulbs in your domelight and map lights. If you getting an EX, hopefully with navi, you could get blue led lights to match your dash and navi color, so when you unlock your car at night, the lights comes on as blue lights instead of regular color from regular bulbs.

I don't know if you can call it a mod, but there you have it. If you changed yours to blue or red, make sure don't keep them on all the time, cops will stop you and say something like this "turn it off! that's my color!" haha, seriously, they will tell you to turn it off if it's blue or red and it's on while driving.

ever since i bought my 2006 Civic LX 4dr, i have had nothing but problems, first the windows would get jammed into the run channels and the windows would pop out of the window frame, that took several trips to the dealership, then the engine would make a whinning noise and they replaced the alternator, then the water pump was going out and that was replaced, the power steering was also leaking, the A/C clutch assembly was replaced, and about 3 weeks ago it broke down on the freeway, turns out the water pump pulley just stopped spinning and it locked everything up, i was on a rental for 1 week, also when shifting from 1st to 2nd and from 2nd to 3rd, the shifter jams before the gear is fully engaged and when the clutch is released it grinds (obviously), the front brakes went out at only 15000 miles, also there is a rattle noise coming from the left-rear wheel which apparently does not exist according to Honda and many Civic Si drivers have complained about it in other forums, when i went to the mountains the water and coolant were leaking from the radiator cap, they didnt find anything wrong but you can clearly see where the water ran down the pipe, i dont know what else to say but good luck and hopefully you dont get a lemon, at this moment i feel extremely disappointed by Honda...

wow, that's like the worst story I ever heard about the new civic. But then again at 15k and your brake pads are out? Maybe you beat it to death... I know our brakes stuff isn't that super durable, but mine not even half way worn when I took it in for 10k maint. at 11k. Oh by the way I just found out my civic was manufactured in Canada...

Civic VS TC... mmm
I think there's no question about it. Quality, efficiency and look.
Once you go with Honda... you'll love it.

i'm sure i can get more out of a stick car than a auto, just shift at low rpms

comparing the tC to the civic is a pretty tough decision because the tC offers a lot for their price

just depends on what you want
is function more important to you or style?
i do like the civic style better but the tC comes with a torquey engine (for the price) and a few bells and whistles for a similar price
resale value, i hand it to the civic
reliability between both cars are pretty equal
(hopefully i don't get flamed, being that this is a civic section)
sorry for you civic owners out there
but for me, i would perfer the tC over the civic coupe
si is a different story

tC
Manual 23/30
Auto 23/31
160hp

Civic
Manual 30/38
Auto 30/40
140hp

If the tC got better fuel economy it would be my pick over the civic, civic is also more expensive...

Also i just wanted to know if its true that civics are more expensive to insure...

its because the new body style now comes with a 5 speed auto, 2005 and previous all came with 4 speed autos. reason why the fuel economy went up on the autos.

yes, well im at 5'5. and the top of my steering wheel covers up some of the MPH if i dont sit straight up.

you said you SEE alot of stop and go traffic. have you ever been in it? it aint that bad actually, i was in it today droppin off my dad at the airport during rush hour lol. you will get used to it trust me. and my friend who bought an auto RSX for the same reason is kicking himself in the *** for not listening to me about getting the stick.

pic of said RSX

thats before the coils, 16" konigs, race headers, HID's and fat list of suspension parts. i get real dissapointed when i see nice fixed up cars that turn out to be automatic, dont you?

Justin,

You are 17. Buy a used car. All teenage males end up beating the living crap out of their first car (dents dings major accidents) Why waste money on a new car when you are just going to destroy it? Buy cheap now and save your money until you're 25. If you don't have two kids and one in the oven by then you'll be able to afford something really nice like an S2000, a BMW, an Audi.

I know you won't listen but this is the best advice I have.

The civic has a class six immobilizer meaning that without the key being in the ignition (or knowing the brake code) they dont start.

The new civics are much harder to steal than other cars on the market. I'm 18 and my insurance isnt terrible at all

I'm in the exact same position as the Original poster! Except I just bought my civic and err i'm 20 this year.

I think i'll either try to get a kit or just maybe a front lip or perhaps those TSX retro fit headlights. - Only b/c they look oh so amazing.
