Some Cage Certifiers are requiring it now, though I have been told it is not required for another two years. Everyone keeps getting different answers on the D Bars.

What made you fail the first time? You didn't have Gussets the first time is what you are saying?

fabricator didnt drop the cage and weld all the way around on a couple. SO, if you weld all the way around then gussets are not required. We didnt know he didnt drop the cage. I dont see the big deal about the D bars, if the rules are going to change then might as well get ready for them. Unless your certification has not run out yet.

I saw it in his chassis book. It has a section about unibody cars that says if the d-bars do not connect to the frame(which they don't in a unibody car), there must be a bar going from rocker panel to rocker panel welded to a 6in plate and the d-bars must connect to this bar. Some inpectors are overlooking it, but he was very strict and said that has been mentioned to him, that is the only reason he remembered it. We talked for a long time about it and I mentioned it to him that it was not in the rule book and he said yes, but it is in his chassis book.

i just tried to get my cage cert'd about 2 weeks ago, while the NE nhra lucas oil series was at atco(when i went to the track) and they would not cert the cage because of this. the tech inspector suggested the same exact thing that Danny had to do, to get my cage up to spec. from what i understand, everyone that already has a cert is good until that runs out, then you will have to add in the rocker to rocker lower crossbar, and the d bars will have to be tied into that. i also asked about the lower cross bar only extending to the bottom of the main hoop(not tieing to the rocker) and this is not allowed(unless you are going to 25.5 the car, which creates a "driver capsule"

I sent the guy that did mine an e-mail to see if he would send me some documentation to show you guys. Maybe he will so we can clear this up. I would say that everybody needs to go ahead and do it because you will have to at some point. It is much easier to do it from the beginning than it is to add it. You can make the bar go from side to side and mount the hoop and all on top of it rather than have four mounting plates.
Phill's cage just got certified witht he d bars going to plate on the center tunnel... 2 weeks ago.
Maybe that is why the OPs didn't get the cert since they were going to the floor and not the tunnel.

According to the book he showed me, that would not be legal.
