Default The SSBP EG. My paint thread from start to finish. UPDATE!!!!!!!!

First off, if you dont like long drawn out threads, click away now.

Alright, I was going to post this earlier but I know how everyone loves to wait...and wait...and wait for the finished project, so Ill post it now.

Started off as a pretty decent LOOKING eg, until I got into it. Original plans were to fix it up and sell it for profit and get another shell real cheap for me. Well that Idea went down the drain after I really got into it. Little history about the car. I got it in Dec in a trade for my EK shell. The car ran ok, but the tranny has a bad ISB, and the clutch is ****. Motor seems sturdy at 168k. The body was fairly decent, except for the driver quarter had little rust in the norm spot. After digging into it, the pass quarter was OEM and rust free. The drivers side some dingleberry replaced it and failed to do a good job lining up gaps or preventing rust. The rest of the car was OK with little dings here and there.

I started by sectioning the quarter panel for the time being. Knowing in winter im replacing that entire quarter. Im UBER picky about my cars and the little **** that others dont knotice really **** me off...like the gaps being off about a 1/4 in some spots. At that time I was still thinking of fixing and selling, then got carried away. I fixed every dent in the car that I could see (hey it was white, really hard to see) but didnt go to the extent to glaze the whole thing and block. After all its not a show car.

onto the pics, here it is about a week ago. Dosent look like it, but im about 30-40hrs already into the body work in these pics.

With 6-8 other cars in the driveway and garage at all times I couldnt hog the garage, so this is its new home for a few weeks.

before the teardown, the front bumper was repaired by myself with plastic welding a big crack, which failed when another car backed into it . I have yet to get a new frt bumper.

Some pretty colors on that fender huh?

Whats that cute little box by the wheel? hmmm could be going sleeper style turbo d15...hmmmm

Random Pic

Passenger side ready to shoot the jambs.

I painted the hood and roof previous and didnt have the digi with me. The hood didnt come out to my liking. Again im real picky and we had issues with the water traps catching all the water becuase of the high humidity in the shop. The hood has to be resprayed.

No pic of primer coat, here is the 1st coat on #7 value shade.

40min time to wait to shoot base so I took another pic.

Bad lighting, first of 3 coats of base.

3rd coat of base

First of 2 coats of clear.

2nd coat of clear

Out in the sun to show the bodyshop next door my ****

If you already cant tell the hood, roof and spoiler are NBP, the body is SSBP. Looks real purple in these pics, but its not that purple.
to be continued.....

The chips and deep scratches were hit with a orbital with 320, then 400 on the orbital. The ENTIRE car was then wet sanded with 320 to get any swirls. High build primer on some panels, then blocked with 400. I would normally do 600 to 800 after, but its personal preference. There was none in the shop on the sunday I started to paint so I used 400 on everything.

Good pics will come tomorrow, and the REAL pics will come wed when everything is done. Finally bringing it back home on the flatbed thurs to go get tuned on the weekend.

Thanks for all the comments

thanks guys (and gals if there is any).

I loved the ssbp on my gsr and to date I have only ever seen 3 ssbp cars. One being mine and 2 other gsr's. And one was a week ago. I dont like having the everyday color.
