need help with ls/vtec
I was just wonder if was going to build up an ls vtec do i need to change out the rods and piston from the block or could i run with the stock internals until I buy better rods and pistons i have a b18a block panning to put a 97 gsr head on. Would it be safe if i dont upgrade the internals parts yet. Im probably gonna test run the car like 5 or 6 run at the track only and then drive it daily until i purchased better parts.
You won't need to upgrade the bottom end internals to do the vtec conversion. I'd do a compression test and a leakdown test on the motor before you pull the old head off to see what kind of condition the old motor is in.
You said b18a, so if it's not rebuilt, 9 times out of 10 it's got some mileage on it. Just a precaution before the head swap.
And if you end up doing the conversion don't rev it to all kingdom come if you want it too last as a daily driver. There are alot of opinions on where you should redline at. Search around and decide where you think you should shift.
Good luck

everybody interested in lsv should read this
your car will still be faster no matter what you do to the bottom end but i do recommend rod bolts so you can rev higher(8k-9k) I recommend high comp pistons as well (unless you see boost in your future)

you'd be better off boosting instead of doing an lsvtec with a stock internal b18a/b
