Bought a used tranny is it a good idea to replace the throw out bearing and axle seals?

I mean everything "looks" fine but would you say it's a good preventive idea?? Better to be safe than sorry and it's easier while the tranny is out of the car.I have no idea how long a throw out bearing is good for???? Thanks
i would replace the throw out bearing for sure because it is impossible to do while the tranny is in the car and a new one never hurts. As for the axle seals that is up to you, me personally i would replace them just to be on the safe side.
Umm, yea I'd say thats probably a very good idea to replace the TOB and the axle seals... Just for peace of mind.
the axle seals are only like $10, and are easy to change when the transmission is out. Its better to do it now then spend hours taking the axles back out again.
take hold of the end of the input shaft and try to move it from side to side - if it moves at all, you need a new input shaft bearing - common problem on these transmissions

I was just going to say the same thing. While you have it out, you may want to crack the case open and inspect all the bearings while you're at it. It's not hard, check out my build thread. I say this because I just rebuilt mine but didn't change the mainshaft oil seal and now it's leaking

</TD></TR></TABLE>you are correct - i should have mentioned the seal - also a common problem usually caused be bad bearing letting the shaft move - always replace the the pilot bearing in the flywheel when changing the clutch - bad pilot bearing leads to bad input shaft bearing

Anybody know where theres a write to do all this?? How hard is it?? I am mechanically inclined but I don't want to get in over my head, axle seals and throw out bearing I think I can do,how hards a pilot bearing?? Can I do all this?? Thanks,I appreciate all the info.
pilot bearings are easy, you just have to take it to napa or someplace with a press so that they can press in the new bearing. It is in the flywheel so the pilot isnt that hard. As for the other stuff like taking the case apart i have never done but it doesnt look too difficult.
