Ok, with the Northern New England winters and salt they put on the roads for 9 months of the year the '99 Civic 103k is worse of teh wear. I have had to sand blast some front sub frame members and re paint with frame paint. Paint was flaking off them with rust underneath. I thought a car built in Canada would have better underbody paint. Anyway I had to take the front plate off so I started unscrewing three of the STAINLESS machine I used to hold the front plate on. Well the top right one would not budge. Eventuly with to many tries with a big screw driver the head started to strip. So I went to vise grips. Well it started to turn then I heard a crack and the force had broken the METAL two nut backing in the front bumper for the top plate mounting bolts!! I can't get back there, what are my options.

 

A drill.

 

just move the plate 1/4" to one side and use those self tapping screws right though the plastic. You will not notice 1/4" off center. And if you are super **** and want it dead center just oval the hole in the plate to the side 1/4" so the plate is centered.

 

I am cool with that BUT I can't get the old screw out casue now the backing nut is spining around inside the bumper!

just grind the head off with a grinder or dremel

 

GOOD CALL, I have a AC converter and a dremal will go do it right now!
