Look up boundary layer flow in you Aeronautics books. Or even look at a golf ball.

You mean fluid dynamics.

And yes a certain amount of turbulance or Reynolds numebr higher than 3500 is required.

Not really, a Reynolds number is not based on fluid flow. Or fluid dynamics. When is the last time you saw a "wet" wind tunnel?

Ahh, no Don. Reynolds number can and is applied every where as a measure to determine the onset of turblence. It does not matter if it is a fluid or gas, "wet" or dry.

from my understanding is that one reason for leaving the intake port a bit rough is to help mix the air-fuel ratio to create a more even burn.

correct, but in a motor you wont get a reynolds that is anywhere close to 3500.
itll be orders of magnitude higher

What do you think the air/fuel ratio is on a golf ball?

maybe it needs the rougher texture not by mixing the air fuel ratio but

to MAINTAIN the good mix... without turning the fuel into puddles on the wall or floor?

well...

it's talk about a lot, but i'm sure the difference is really under 1% of the flow, if that. As far as fuel atomizing, doubt on a honda port, and a tuned setup it would make a difference at all..

i've yet to see a solid test on the subject, questions like this remain up in the air, unless someone starts handing people dollar bills
