Avid H22 Eg/Dc billet motor mount kit... Part # AC-MM-002 Severe Problems :( look inside...
I am helping a buddy out with his H22 92-95 OBD1 EG hatch swap 94 5spd EG SI Hatch to be exact. We bought the Avid EG/DC billet motor mount kit Part # AC-MM-002. Before we can even get started we are having issues. I figured by the product being billet they would have spent the extra engineering to get it right
- No detailed instructions on hardware or where to use it
- Transmission mount is no way sitting flush
- Holes on the Transmission mount are approximately 5/8" diameter when they don't need to be more than 1/2" to fit the base of the studs if the holes were centered correctly. They are way to large and sloppy.
- Using a dozen washers to fix the alignment is no solution
There is a bolt that goes to the transmission that is in the way of the billet mount. The bolt is needed to be there it has a spring of some sorts under it that has to do with the transmission internals. You cannot do away with it. I have both a H23/H22 trans both have the same issue. If you place the mount flush on the inner of the 3 studs there is a gap of approximately 1/2" from the mount to the base of the other 2 studs. There is nothing in the kit to provide proper spacing of these 2 studs. So there is no measurements of the gap from Avid you must guess with washers to get an approximate fit. It would have been much more helpful if they would have provided spacers for these 2 studs or design it into the billet mount. Also this gap is not the same on both studs. When you put the mount and bolt it down to the inner stud it actually hits this bolt I mentioned. To raise the mount off the bolt you would have to space all 3 studs up which would effect the overall aligment of the engine in the car. Why didn't Avid put a recess at this point to allow for the bolt head. If you used the 5 washers provided in the kit it is half of what you need to space the bracket up. Spacing with washers to me is kind of mickey mouse. A lot of things about this mount looks like they were rushing it and looks very sloppy so far. Also bolts are 8.8 why didn't they step up to 10.9?

I want to know what they were thinking, and how this is suppose to work. If there isn't a easy fix of how this works then there equipment to make these billet mounts should be confiscated haha...
should there be a spacer at all??? or should I assume and try to get rid of the bolt which I don't want to do for this mount to properly work and have correct engine alignment???

Did you try asking them before bashing them on a public forum?

H23vtecDA, just saw your thread on the problem. Anytime if anybody has any questions about our product. Please either e-mail us at info@avidracing.com or PM me and I'll be right on it. From the looks of it, I will have to send you the proper spacers to go along with that kit. The washers that you have in the photo are not for that. So please e-mail me, I'll have them overnighted to you on Monday, for Tuesday. Interms of the bolts we use a mixture of 8.8 to 10.9 to 12.9 depending on the application. Sorry for the inconvience and please once again e-mail me your full name and address. Thanks
Just wondering if you bought it online?

All of the manufactures on the market use 2 piece designs depending on the application. But the aluminum plate is not thin at all, the picture is very deceiving. But this is after all honda-tech, so anything goes
If you anyone has any questions or comments, please let us know and e-mail us at info@avidracing.com. Thanks guys

Agreed.
Franklin hooked us up with all of our Avid Mounts for customers cars and so forth. My H22 EG has avid mounts and I have 597hp and not the slightest concern of the transmission mount breaking etc. I didnt even have to use spacers, however I run a honda accord trans.
