I never used to cover mine (because it's pointless unless you cover the rest of them..) but I have since I went to Shooters on the Intercoastal in Ft Laud.. I threw the parking garage ticket on my dash and it slid over the VIN.. and well.. I'm too lazy to reach up and grab it to throw it away.

Well, in some states, the inspection sticker also has the VIN number. You can't really cover that up because it's up against the glass.

So just put a little piece of paper between the sticker and the glass

My local acura dealer will make a key if you bring them the vin number. Nothing else is required, they don't ask for registration, id, proof of ownership, etc...

I would use an old parking ticket stub to partially obstruct the VIN (as you intended not to do it on purpose).

I have never heard of people getting their cars towed for having their VIN partially obstructed - you would have to be in violation of something else (i.e. overdue parking meter, owing fines for other parking violations) for them to tow you.

I don't think a business card is a good idea.

Do you want thieves to know where you work? and where you park you car when you work? Parking stubs or pieces of paper that say "Fugg j00 thieves!) is a better idea.

My old business cards had a 100% Japanese translation of the front on the back. I am betting most theives wouldn't be smart enough to read that.

AssPenny: My dealer would never make a key without the proper idenification...thats SO against Acura policy.

If I were you I would call Acura's customer service number and report that dealer...maybe then they could crack down on any dealers who are doing this.

But you still need that key programed to start a car with the immobilizer unit correct?

will they make the immobilzer keys with just the VIN or do they need the "RED" key?

Yeah I know. That acura dealership is now owned by another dealer now, so it might be different now. But as long as you know someone in the parts deptarment, you can get them to make you one

As for the chiped key, when I bought my ITR, they lost the spare key and they were able to make me another one in about 5 min from the vin number

Craig - Who knows if some one wants it bad enought, its gone

Is this a real post?

Use a business card, construction paper, a Mt Dew label, Hurricane Label, piece of cloth, condom wrapper, carbon fiber sticker, sheet of Charmin 3ply, movie ticket, your receipt from "Bills Palace o' ****"...

I could go on with the ideas if you need any more?
