PLEASE READ AND HELP!!
Ok, here's the deal. I found this guy in Macon, GA that had a JDM ITR swap for sale. We talked on the net a lot and he seemed legit enough. I ended up sending him $3500 bucks for the entire swap. He said it was going to come from his brother's shop in Cali and that it would take 2 weeks. Needless to say it has almost been 2 months now and I HAVE NO ENGINE!! Trust me, I tried to cover myself while buying the engine, but I was left with no options, he needed the money up front (so please don't tell me I should have did this, or if I were you I would have did that--cause that won't help me now!). Anyhow, I have all the money order reciepts, the over night reciept, and every email we have ever sent each other. I also have his "supposed" name: Jason Thompson. And his address: 1800 Wesleyan Dr. Apt. 140 Macon, GA. My question is, what should I do now to try and get my money back? I have tried emailling him for almost a month now and I have received no reply. I also know of atleast one other guy in Arizona that has purchased an engine from him. Of course he has not recieved an engine either. He also has all of his papers (we both sent the money orders to the same addy).
I live 100 miles from Macon, and I have already tried looking for him.
REWARD: I will give $500 bucks to anyone that can give me info that leads to me getting my money back...therefore, if I get my money back, I will give the one person that has given me the most useful information $500 bucks (you have my word).

sounds like a wonderful idea, but I have already looked for him and can't find him. Also, I would love to do that, but that will probably not get me my money back. And would kill all my chances with the cops.
I had a similar problem but it was with the purchase of a $4200 Laptop. After no reponse or false promises out of nowhere I got a letter from the DA of Detroit (I live in Cali, the sellers shop is in Detroit), anyways the case is being handled as internet fraud and I guess alot of are filling.
My advice is, file a police report in your area, call that towns DA and look for information to be able to file for internet fraud, this case may also apply for mail fraud call the post office or who ever you used to send the money.
Call your bank and or credit card, depending on the way you sent payment and ask what they can do for you.
With a police report you can take the person to small claims court and and heve him subpena (sp?) or else he will have a warrant for his arrest.
I'll post up more if I can think of any more info.
Good Luck

It sure seems like there are a lot of people getting scammed these days... I just read another post about a guy getting screwed out of 500 bucks... I don't understand the level of trust some people have these days... There is no way I'd send off over 3g's unless it was a trusted friend, a family member, or a legimit buisness. COD!!! That's the way to do it. I wanna see the parts before I fork over my scrilla...
Sorry if you didn't ask for stuff like this, I just felt like standing on the soap box for a moment...

-Dave, who has personal experience with dealing with the cops in regards to fraud (as a victim, identitiy theft and credit fraud in my case though)
i got fucked on an alpine cva 1005, i payed paypal with my credit card and whatever paypal didnt give back i put a claim with my card dept and they fixed it all . . . it took a while though. . im a bit more cautious now. it sucks esp when its that kind of money mine was like 1000 $ , not quite as bad as your loss. but still alot of money.
the kid is like an hour or 2 from me . im still gonna go up there one of these days , beat his *** and take all his **** .

i find it so hard to fathom that someone would just take money from another person like that... I just couldnt see myself doing it or even considering it.
yeah, all bs aside let the cops handle the chit. focking him up will make you feel a little better, but you will still be out of allot of $$$$$. and like you said it will fock up any of your chances wid the cops.
Ouch man that really sucks. This happened on the VW board I'm on. Needless to say the police wouldn't get involved since it was an out of state claim from the guy that actually ripped off some of the nicest parts retailers in te vw community. Needless to say a few memebers of the baord took pics of the guys house and license plate of his car and sent that to the cops. Personally I'd grab a louisville slugger and some friends and go teach that bitch a lesson. . I'd call the police in your home town and the town where this *** lives and file reports and send them all the documentation

I think you should contact your local authorities. By doing this however your gonna have to wait a long time till you get your $$, if you ever get it. If you know someone that works for Nextel or a law inforcment agent that can get his info for you it would be better. The more you have on this guy the better! Good Luck.
