Default Energy Suspension shifter bushings question.

After 2 weeks of waiting I finally just got them in. Instructions are clear, just don't know what to do with the grease.. Do I use this after a long time from now? or Should I prelube them? They are greasy as is so I doubt I'd have to lube them. I wonder what it is going to feel like when I go from 12 year old torn/worn bushings to brand new ES bushings. Have never felt them before but am about to. I thought the kit would include more. I don't understand how just these pieces can make such a big difference. I ordered the black ones instead of the red.

Dude, you never have any idea of what you're talking about do you? They do make quite a bit of difference. They do so by limiting the play the shifter has from rubber bushings (play being movement past the specified range of motion).

They are quite honestly the best cheap mod I've done to my car. Going from shifting in my 97 Civic with a GSR dual bend and ES bushings and then going into my girlfriend's 98 Civic with stock single bend and stock bushings .... it's night and day. The positive feel you get from these bushings is just fantastic.

Get them, install them, love them. It takes about 5 minutes once you get under the car.

dude what kind of difference do you think they make?.... of course they will make moving the shifter feel different and that is expected of using a harder bushing.... they are not magic so get over your ricer belief.

I didn't say they made me faster .... it's just a far more positive feel and almost no play in the shifter. That's a pretty big ******* difference to me. The do what they are advertised to do, and they do it well.

I'm not saying they add VTEC or magical NAWZ juice.

Shut the hell up if you have nothing technical to add to this discussion.

You can't catch a ninja edit unless you quote it.

I have installed mine so long ago, I don't remember how it was without the bushings to compare how much of a difference it made.

However, whenever I use my old Skunk2 ****, shifting was smooth as a hot knife through butter.

Thanks for the replies.. I just got back from installing them. I was surprised to see that the bushings in there looked almost new but were veryyyy VERRRRY squishy compared to the ES ones. As I was down there I started noticing a number of things wrong. You know how if you want to remove your shifter lever you have to split that thingy in half by taking off the 2 nuts and bolts.. well.. one of the bolts had fallen off so it caused play in the shifter which was almost not noticeable unless you lifted the shifter upward. You could litteraly lift and drop the shifter like 1/2 ". I never noticed it was sitting a bit lower. Second thing is that I noticed there is no bushing at all in the shift lever. Its just metal to metal (or is it supposed to be like this?) There was so much play in there. The fork (on the linkage) that meets the shift lever are like 2 different sizes. I would have though that the shift lever would fit snugly with the linkage like it does at the tranny but theres about 1/4 " of free space, There was just a bolt holding it there with 2 nuts. To fix that I just added washers till it was snug..

All good. Added new nut and bolt and used lock washer. Replaced bushings pretty easy. This did not take me 5 minutes though. Took me over an hour just because it's HOT here in FL right now and my feet are tanned badly since they were sticking out from under the car. I managed to do all this without removing the assembly at all which wasnt wise. The exhaust and I were exchanging some swear words for being in the way (or at least I did) but anyway.. After all of this... EVERYTHING feels PERFECT. Like if it were new. I'm happy. It's just really weird now and have to get used to shifting "normal" since most of the play isnt there anymore... Next thing that scares me is that I MAY have discovered a leaking axle seal. Or it could be coming from the VSS since I lost the bolt and never put it back on Thanks!

Damn, I guess I'm too late to disagree with akuna.

OP:

One of the best cheap mods IMO. I actually have prothane shifter bushings with a skunk2 shifter and ****. I've driven quite a few hondas and None have compared tot he comfort of aftermarket bushings and the skunk2 setup.

I just got an energy suspension bushing kit and it didn't come with any grease. I was expecting it to, and now i see that some do come with it. Anyone know why mine didn't? what could i use instead?

Any lithium grease should work fine. Something designed for suspension components/bushings.

Browse autozone for some lube.

A hint for urethane bushings - especially on sway bar bushings; If you have a contact area that is under motion (i.e. sway bar, or LCAs) lube the bushing when it is put in, but wrap the contacting part of the metal component with teflon tape. I guarentee it won't sqeak.

I got the shifter kit for my past two cars and it makes a big difference.

Because shifter bushings are known to squeak?

That grease that comes in the kit is the same stuff as marine grease that you can get at any auto parts store.

What the hell are you talking about? You sir, are an idiot. It's an awesome, inexpensive mod and makes quite a bit of difference. Maybe you should stop talking out of your *** and go make a thread about putting a hood scoop on your car

I just wished I was able to pick them up locally. I had to pay more for shipping than the actual product. When they came in, they came in a HUGEEEEEE box compared to the TINY plastic packaging the bushings themselves come in. I felt that as an insult. I saw UPS walking up to the door holding the box over his shoulders because of its huge size. I signed, he handed me the box, had NO weight to it, I open it.. and in a tiny corner I see my bushings. Anyone ever had this happen? What a waste of shipping money
