Default Hot air when outside vent open???

Probably very simple to the experts, but I just recently noticed (cause it didnt use to do this) that hot air comes thru the vents when set to outside air. (yes the heater pipe closes, it is NOT HOT when set to inside air). So my question is...

WHY?

Is it the gasket from the hood to the cowl? It still seems spongy, but does have a couple of places where it has one or two in gaps where it connects to the body, but the rubber is consistent all the way across the hood. Hope that made sense.

So, the length of the rubber is there, and unbroken, its just that there are places where it CAN lift off, tho it dosent look like it has.

Seeing as how the hood holds this in place, I'm more worried about how its supoosed to fit, or how 'tall' the rubber should be to ensure a good seal.

Is this what I should be looking at? Or does the air go inside from a different locale?

Thanks!!

Well to be perfectly honest, I don't think there's a problem, however I guess I should ask, what temperature are you drawing the air in at? What I mean is, just the other day I had it blowing natural outside air in and it was 91 degrees here where I live, and it did nothing but blow humid nasty air inside, however, yesterday when it was storming and I was on my way home from work, it let in nice cooled down "rain smelling" air....so I what I'm getting to is that it's only going to draw in the kind of air you're driving through.

I wouldn't have asked if it was outside air.

Its far too hot to be that. Its like 95-110 or so (dont have a gauge) when coming out of the vents, and the inside air, (top off) is about 15-20 degrees cooler, so theres something wrong there. It only happens when the engine is hot, (not overheating) when I just start, its not different.

I'm going to try to rejuvenate the seal with some silicone grease, and see what happens.

Your HVAC gates behind the dash might be stuck or have bad seals. If the hood or the cowl was replaced, I would suspect the seal, but even then, thats kinda hot. Has any work been done to the interior specifically the HVAC area? If your heater valve is busted or not closing right this could do it, since coolant is only supposed to flow when its open. Check that stuff.

Thanks, I'll check the gate, etc under dash.

Well, the hood was replaced, and thats got me thinking there too.

And I checked the heater line, and its closing all the way, so thats not it. (otherwise it would be hot with interior air on too)

I'm going to get some silicon later today, and try it on the hood seal, plus see where exactly its fitting there.
